Hell, when Morgan and I went it was just $100 per person.. Just 8 cars I think.. Its a wonderful deal.. I personally see good things about mountain drives and little talledega both.. cost aside. The scenery is definitely nicer on a mountain drive, but I think you get to learn more at the track since you can actually push your car beyond its limits without plummetting to your death.. just go off the track worst case (at least thats the case at oh-so-safe little talledega).

Airik, my lines were very messed up. I didn't want to go initally because I wasn't going to learn too much, but in the end, I'm glad I did. I took the track and tried to get comfortable with it. At the end, I was very comfortable with my route, but I know there were many places I could have improved. You do feel pretty cool heel-toeing some corners though. ;)
You're right about the mountain drives, the track gives you so much more freedom. I would really like to get a deal going to Little Talladega with an instructor/experienced teachers to learn what's up. Anyways, glad you had a good time. I know I did.The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Nick - Channing posts on the local BFc forum and on e30tech. I also sold him my previous set of 14" Azenis.
Bill- Here's your thesis on my track day bitch
When we ran clockwise, we merged @ approximately the point labeled #1
I initially ran in 2nd and 3rd gear, heel-toe and left foot braking. It needed a lot of focus and calculation. It was still fun and since the track was still drying up lots of corrections and counter steering. Had I continued this way, I would have gotten more exhausted and would've over-heated my pads for sure.
After the ride along, I aimed to stay in 3rd throughout the track, this meant trying to conserve as much momentum so as not to loose to much velocity such that exit speed was affected. Lines were more crucial.
When I got my lines right, I would briefly redline 3rd gear on the back straight before hitting the banked turn " R381.8-R234.2" on the map. This was an early apex with the pass. side right wheel brushing by the cone and the pedal to the medal. I got to get up to 70-75 mph exit speeds when I got it right after feeling comfortable with my line.. you would then drift out on exit towards the cone (can u say fun)
The next turn "R170.6-R206.6" was based on some heavy braking and then early throttle (since i was in 3rd) and with the perfect apex you would almost redline 3rd again as you got to the next area indicated with the green boxes where you'd trail break as you took a straight line. This was fun as you then had to LAY into the breaks and once again it was early throttle time for the m42 in 3rd. This part I never got "really perfect" as the car would understeer a bit regardless of all my attempts.
Upon exiting, it was once again almost redlining second with a late apex and some crucial line focus or you lost some speed before entering "R180.4-R229.7" as this was banked and was the recipe to you getting some really good exit speed for that stretch in order to get up to about 80-85mph then bled off a little speed to take the banked turn.
Running counter clockwise, we exited the Pit @ label # 2 and then hit 3rd all the way to " R381.8-R234.2" when you bled a little speed and I was able to get up to around 75 mph once or so with the perfect line. The most interesting part was after you exited around point #1 you were pedal to the metal and would trail break around label #2 and this was where you would either get your perfect exit speed or loose some. It took me a while to get this right but when I did...it was a case of
I know I should labeled the turns as 1,2,3,4,5 etc but w.ever haha this map plot is not as accurate as the real map.
This is what the track looks like more accurately.
This next pic shows you what the track will look like after they are done with the renovations. It will definitely become faster
