    Playing with Plastidip | E36LOL | 80s Patina to Matte Camo Green

    Something I have loved about this car is the paint is not spectacular. It's not the worst ever but it's in the same I don't worry about washing it. Don't worry about driving in the rain. Etc.

    Was approached to have the car professional plastidip'd using an in house professional painter. So... I mean I can't turn that down. Original idea was to do matte tan(from the camo line-up) but then it would be tan. I'd have to wash it. So went with basically olive drab. Really happy with what I received and when done I can peel it off. Has ~3gallons of paint total. 1 gallon of a base to build up layers and 2 gallons of the green.

    Lots of people have used this stuff to paint random items. Or complete cars. Use of a compression and full paint gear inside a shop and it really comes out smooth and looks great IMO. Leaves me a canvas to mess around with if I choose to in the future. Will probably have this for the winter(winter in GA so not really winter). Spring will do something fun.

    TCS Dips here in the Atlanta area did everything.

    -Euro Bumpers/Valance/Etc
    -OBD1 M52 w/ S52 Cams | 3.5" intake & HFM | M50 manifold | Full Exhaust
    -6sp Getrag 420G Trans | 3.73S Rear End
    -Ground Controls | Treehouse LCABs
    -Other random stuff all over

    Start of taping and prep. I had to leave before it was done. All the lights, door handles, tail lights and what not were removed before spraying.

      I like it, 318iS lockstrips and some polishing on the chrome and that thing will really pop!

        Yup. Full bath showed how the grills need to be spruced up as well. Plus get the chrome popping!

              I'm skeptical about this whole PlastiDipping cars thing. All that stuff takes is one good bump in a location, and it develops a tear and isn't fixable from that point on, you have to pull it and respray it. How well does this hold up on a car?

                Well their 'shop' car has been orange for 6 months. And months before that it was camo green. And the owner has a blue expedition. That is 8 months old. Looks pretty darn good.

                It's not for a permanent replacement to actual paint obviously.

                  I'm not necessarily a fan of plasti-dipped cars, but pealing a damaged section off and respraying wouldn't be any more work then fixing damage in paint. Also it isn't really fragile, if you spray it on thick enough it's fairly durable.

                      I have been thinking the same thing. Paint thats made to peel off does not sound durable.

                      Either way, I like the satin olive color.

                        Durability is based off the quality of the application and thickness. If you use spray cans and skimp it's hard to remove it and it's not as durable. That is what I understand.

                          Well, clearly. I'm just curious. I did my front windshield lockstrip about 2 years ago, and it's been great, still need to do the rear. Also did my inner window trim, but it's got a bad spot, need to do it again.
