Is it just me, or is 1/8” too thin, and aluminum the wrong material?

<- not impressed by 666 Fab plate..

min thickness of 3/16” (1/4” ideal) made from steel (preferably stainless) would be the cat’s ass

i realize that by adding a skid plate, one is taking up ground clearance..
but hey, if you’re gonna build a plate – build a solid one.

I was thinking that too, but think of it like this.

If you hit something that is semi flexable like aluminum, its going to bend and absorb the shock of the impact, Yes the skid plate might be toast, but if there is enough clearence between it and the pan it should spread the force evenly through the pan, rather than a a small surface area such as nicking a man hole. Much like a crumple zone on cars.

Now, if you use a solid steel one, it will transfer all the force right on to the front support and sub frame, which it would be doubtful you will have enough impact to bend the subframe (with either plate if you hit something that hard your gonna get fucked either way), but I would imagine that the front mounting points would rip the front of your car to pieces.

            Nothing.

But the pitiful 195/45 tires on them does.

good point. even if the plate took some damage, one could hammer it back into a useable shape.

              unlike, say.. an oil pan.

When that happened to me, I talked to some lawyers about it. They basically said the city will say its not their problem, end of story. Atleast here its a waste of time.

Same thing happined to me in arizona while I was going to STEP.

I went to wal mart and bought a bottle jack and two jack stands. Then I installed the pan and pump in my apartment parking lot. When I was done I returned the jack stands(I was a poor student) and washed all the aft/oil out of my hair.

                      I feel your pain.
