Don't have too many pics yet here's a side view. It needs a lot of work until it's practical, but the engine feels strong and it is the most fun car I've ever driven by a long shot. ;D What do you guys think? O before I forget, the BBSs are real! LEGIT LEGIT

And thanks for the BBS info. Did all BMW BBSs come with the bmw badge instead of the BBS one?

Need to get those bottom rockers painted to bring a little more contrast. Nice start, but not a fan of black wheels.

Hey guys I was working on it today and I also took many pics of the interior and what not.
My dad's on a business trip so his garage is mine!
Beaten up front bumper, removed broken left blinker, new one is coming in the mail.

Missing some stuff on the center console but it's not a priority right now, aftermarket stereo thoughts? Is this frowned upon in e30's? It's not changing but I'm curious.

My shifter is a flashlight handle like it says in my sig, it works surprisingly well, and it's a funny touch. People are like "uh wtf is this shit?!" Grips well and is a pretty nice throw, I would feel like I did something wrong if I changed it.

Every gauge has something wrong with it besides the RPM gauge. Going to look into this soon. I really want the temp to be accurate. NO CRACKS!!! hehe

Engine bay, I've been told it's a stock engine and a different engine? If anyone can identify it would be greatly appreciated!

My sport seats have taken some serious abuse, but they are extraordinarily comfortable. The passenger side is rusted in I think so no moving that one back and forth. Doors are stripped for the meantime while I sort out the locks, looks much nicer with them on!

New fan and fan clutch are in keeping it nice and cool (sometimes it's supposedly really hot, but then it comes right back down to temp. Gauge problem!)

Blinker is out, entire driver side lock assembly is out, have a used one coming in the mail. I don't know why but it will not lock at all. Will be able to put door panels back on after that comes, feels really awesome to have that sucker out and be able to see if there is any way to salvage it. I can't tell what's wrong but a working one for 40$ is cool by me so yolo.

Used getrag 5 speed. My e30 is missing fifth so some day or when I go to school next year maybe I will be able to put it in.

Oil change
New seatbelt for passenger side
Reset oil change lights
hung the exhaust up
Rebuild driver side lock cylinder
de-fogged tail lights
new fan + fan clutch
put in high beams
replaced broken HID low beam with a halogen
secured the connections to the blinkers so they actually turn on when needed
Aimed the right side headlights
Unclogged wiper sprayers
Plugged hole in the exhaust

There has been a few small random things I've done but I can't remember them right now. This is also barely scraping the surface! With the blinker and new lock I'm going to see if I can get it inspected. All lights work, brakes work, parking brake works, signals work, no more exhaust leak, it's registered, insured. I'm excited ;D:D:D

If you like BBS wheels you need a set of these. These arrived in the post yesterday and I'm now trying to blag a set of Toyo Proxes track / road tyres off an oval racing pal of mine. They've been banned on the ovals this season as they're too grippy.

Can't really see from the pictures but your wheels look like mine. They're actually VW OEM fit on Golf GTi's. Have a look at the casting marks on the hub of the wheel, if you see a dub badge and a set of Audi rings you'll know what they are.

Yesterday was the first time I could bring it into a garage and do some work in a long time. Main job was to get a valve timing under my belt. I picked up a socket set from HF, some feeler gauges, and tore into it at about 1pm.
Finally a nice day!

As someone said earlier, these black wheels really need a new color. I'm thinking some where in the light to dark grey area.

Is lip is off, really digging the look from the side.

From the front it's aite. No scraping is so much better though and it doesn't look like it has a weight distribution of 60 front-40 back :grin:

sketchy spark plug holes, I think I need some new boots for them, they were extremely easy to take off and put back in at the end.

Sprayed a tiny bit of wd-40 and it left some greasy liquid resting in the bottom of the holes. Was scared that some may get into the cylinders, fortunately she started right up after the valve timing! Did my best to get it all out with this rig

Part of the project was to paint this so I started sanding right away after getting it off so I could get coats done and time some valves while it's drying.


Went to try and turn the cam from the spinny thing near the bottom of the engine, and I knew I didn't have a 22mm so I tried to use a 7/8 but 7/8 plus the socket was too big to fit between the radiator and the spinny thing. My boss who happens to be one of my best friend's dad never brings their cars to a mechanic or anything and we talk about cars a lot to and from the bands we set up. It's about an hour each way to work so we are pretty good friends and also work together. He has an abundance of tools so I texted him and he said it was cool if I swung by to get a 22mm wrench. They live like a mile away so it's wicked nice.

Full workshop in here, not shown is a big AC compressor, tons of music speaker power lines, mic cords, diodes, anything electrical he has it. This toolbox is also completely full, and not surprisingly, he had a big 22mm wrench that was perfect for the job.

I'm so thankful for being trusted with going in their home and grabbing something that I need. One day when I have the assets I want a box like that!

22mm here we go valve timing!

I made sure I was doing everything right, but then on the sixth valve I realized I was doing something wrong. The second half of the valves/rockers all had the hole visible, and on some of mine the hole was gone because I would spin the eccentric too much to compensate for the gap between the rocker and cam.The (rockers?) that go up and down to open the valve have a tiny bit of leeway which I assume is natural, maybe .5mm or something. On the first 6 I would push the rocker down towards the valve to measure it, so I would back the rocker off way farther than it needed to be, because that .5mm that are in between the rocker and cam should not have been there. So I went back and redid the first six.

Eventually I got through the valve timing with small snack breaks and layers of spray on the valve cover. It probably took me somewhere in between 5-7 hours total to do JUST the valve timing. This includes removing the plugs, cleaning the holes etc. The first six I did took way longer than when I did it correctly because I kept having to go back and redo it and finding TDC was harder in the beginning because I never had done it before.

After a few layers of black its coming out better


It was getting late so I whipped up this ///M themed valve cover paint job real quick!
