While you had the right of way, you should have saw that coming a mile away. He was turning very slowly. It looks like you had plenty of time to avoid the accident. Not sure how they are going to rule on this. Not trying to be a dick about it since I know it sucks to get into a wreck but I didn't see any form of defensive driving on your part in the video.

I think it's partly the camera that makes it seem that way. Looks like it has a fisheye lens, so the truck wasn't as far away as you'd think, watching the video. I agree that it seems like it could have been avoided though. If I see someone doing something like that, I slow down until I figure out WTF they're doing.

Here's the camera, I have the G1W, this looks like an updated version.
Try not to leave it on when you're not driving, or when you need a jump start. Had one die on me. Current one has been solid though.
Yeah that was my car on CL, until someone flagged it lol saved me the trouble of taking it down so thanks.
I used either a card or paypal on everything, I'll start tracking down receipts.
Like I said, I was focused on turning right on the corner. Saw the green light, was scanning for pedestrians crossing the street on the right. And the camera uses a wide angle lens so things on the outside of the screen seem to move slower than inside. Something I too was puzzled by when watching dash cam compilation videos on youtube. Also you can tell when I start pressing the brakes, it's hard to tell but it's there.

Thanks, and no just the lowly m50tu haha.
Yeah that video makes everything seem spread out and slowed down farther away it is, but it's really not. I had to drive down that street a few times to get a better understanding of it. I remember my insurance asking me if I started moving towards the right to avoid getting hit and I wasn't sure. But when I took that exit a couple more times that's just when I usually get ready for the turn. You can tell I started braking once I got near that white fire hydrant..
I'm really hoping the insurance companies understand this so I won't have to explain it out, not that they'd even believe me seeing as I still haven't heard back from esurance! Very little hope in them.
I drive about 70,000 miles per year, more when I was younger. I've never caused an accident, and I've avoided countless accidents. I've gotten very good at reading peoples driving behaviors.
That 88 year old man simply shouldn't be driving. His reaction times are way off. I might have noticed that truck in my peripheral vision but I was focused on looking for pedestrians since it's a bit of a blind corner and there's no sidewalk on the end of the street on the side I was on. I assumed anyone in decent mental health wouldn't shoot across me, obviously seeing the only bright red car on the road.
His passenger was also knocked out cold asleep. I'm assuming they've just finished a long days work of landscaping. Not a very good combination so far! 88 years old, finishing laborious work, with nothing on his deteriorating mind but KFC. He had a good 2-3 second delay in his speech alone when he was being asked questions.
I have no problem being at fault, but only if it was my fault. Bottom line is, he made an unsafe turn, and caused an accident. Maybe someone who's worked in insurance can chime in, make sure I'm not going off my rocker haha.
Navarone: No but I think it may be related to your memory card. I know these cameras only play nice with a certain class speed card and under a certain capacity. Maybe try reformatting the card? I'll check what class/capacity mine is tomorrow.

Like he said, not trying to be a dick. I'm just saying.

It doesnt matter if he had time to stop the fact of the matter is he SHOULDNT HAVE HAD TOO. The dude turning left did not yield like he was supposed too. This happens so much its so annoying. Makes me want to buy a POS and just start hitting people the same way and start suing insurance companies. As a victim of the same exact accident (except at a intersection) the other guy's insurance company didnt pay me a dime for my car. I was young and listened to my parents at the time, now I know better. I keep my yamaka in the glove box at all times now and im just one ambulance ride to the hospital an attorney and a fat insurance pay check.

He's in a cabrio guys. Some chicks were checking him out as he was pulling out from the exit, he was looking back at them. Maybe a kissy-face and a wink were exchanged, then BAM! I can't blame him.Originally posted by Andy.BWhenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"

It doesn't matter that he shouldn't have had to. Avoiding collisions altogether should be the goal. The guy turning left is clearly at fault but the car is still wrecked regardless. Oh and looking for pedestrians on the corner ? I usually do that when I get there and stop/slow down."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Sorry you lost your car - I had similar damage a bit over a year ago & the car ended up being totally repairable, so don't necessarily write it off just yet. The oil could just be a cracked sump?
Once I stripped the front end of mine, the damage looked no where near as bad as it first seemed.
