found a place that sells yellow zinc plated metric fasteners ... not really exciting but I'm a sucker for pretty shiny things

got tired of my leaky halfassed brake booster connections (the elbow fittings that go into the throttle body are MIA) so I decided to do something a little more radical.
tapping the holes ...

test fit ...

after several hours of scrubbing ...

... and installed. that's one huge vacuum leak fixed.

Here is the DIY I wrote. Not sure how many people want to do this, but it's info I would have liked to see.Last edited by modernist; 10-12-2015, 09:42 PM.Comment

WD40, a brass bristle brush, and electrical contact cleaner. I replaced some of the badly corroded nuts with new.Originally posted by efficientWhat did you use to get it that cleanComment

More revvy funtimes :)
OEM eta exhaust, the only differences being a generic cat, and the pinched section under the rear subframe was replaced with a round pipe.
Also discovered that the in-tank fuel pump isn't working at all (although there's battery voltage at the connector) and the fuel pulsation damper is entirely missing. I'll be doing the Chevy Vega pump mod, I'll post pics. I drove across the country twice with a broken fuel pump ... eek! The inline pump must be really strong, doesn't make much noise at all and the car runs fine aside from a weird idle and sometimes inconsistent WOT power delivery.
I have a 3.73 LSD going in soon, just waiting to get the cover back from the sandblaster ...
and I've continued cleaning up the engine bay. The rebuilt AFM from Bavrest works well and looks clean to boot!

I had that same issue you had with power delivery.. Would cut off at high rpm and i would have to feather the pedal :/ , got a oem eta pump and problem solved :) . How is your coolant reservoir hose set up? Whereas mine is where it shouldnt be.

Installed a fuel pressure damper today ... the one that should be next to the fuel pump was missing and I thought it would be more useful near the fuel rail. Made a little bracket, mounted it under the intake manifold. Low speed drivability and idle are noticeably smoother. Injector noise has also subsided a lot. Whereas before above 2.5k the M20 would start to get really busy, now cruising at 3k+ isn't annoying. Who would have figured.

I've been driving around with the (broken) in-tank pump completely disconnected and my rough cold start symptoms have pretty much disappeared. 3-4 cranks, revs up to 1500 and settles at 1000, like it should. Don't wanna rely on the external pump alone too long (new in-tank is in the mail), but this is really bizarre. Still idles kinda weird, hopefully the new in-tank pump helps.Comment

Did the Vega pump hack today to replace my dead in-tank pump. Power above 5000 RPM is tangibly improved. Seems peppier overall.

This thread is great motivation to focus less on modifications, and more on getting it back to showroom cleanliness. Car looks well above par!No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment
