It looks more like the ravaglia than the cecotto looking at the pictures you've provided!

He can't possibly remove every VIN. The firewall is stamped. It's just a few extra hoops to jump through. Send it to Poland to get it restored. They do good work and are cheap over there.

Fuck the PO's wishes. He was a terrible owner anyway. Don't scrap an m3, especially such a rare one. Would be such a waste. I don't understand how you, of all people, is willing to part this out.

Ugh this thread frustrates me. It's your car do what you want with it. Definitely worth saving. It's just rust.

If you look at post #50 he actually cut the VIN out of the firewall.

That's a cool find!! but from the work needed i think I rather buy one built and ready. I think it would cost a whole lot more to rebuild

Maybe he got into a wild police chase and the car has been sitting ever since. If it's ever on the streets again it might come back to him. Fugitive lol

Could you just run the last 7 digits of the engine number? Assuming the engine is original, then aren't the last 7 digits of the engine number and the VIN the same? On my old e21 this was the case. My e30 didn't have the original engine anyway, so not sure if this is the case with e30s.

It is the original engine but I'm not selling the engine :)

So weird. I assume the old man also got rid of the one hard (relatively) to get to vin tag, the one on the trans?
