Ah, I see. That is why you thought I wouldn't stay - the asshole factor. Seriously, Digitalwave - its an internet forum. I won't let that get to me.

Sounds like a typical girl driver to me.

And you people relying on 5mph bumpers and safety technology from the 80s are fucking hilarious. If youre so concerned about safety you wouldnt have bought a 15+ yr old car, most of which dont have airbags.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

I'm starting to like diving boards. I use to hate them but as the cars are getting older i'm starting to dig the big hunk of steel. The first time I really really liked them was a couple of minutes ago when I saw Is's picture and read his bumper philosophy. Is I think your right, those bumper shocks protecting your car are way more important in a possible crash than looking cool. Jenn this site is part guys who like cars Mixed with high school.

Sounds like a typical arrogant prick to me.

Look, just because they have only limited value doesn't mean they have no value. If some stupid guy backs into my bumper at 5 mph - there is something there to take the blow other than the trunk tub. And if the trunk gets the blow on a car like this, bingo, its totalled. I am not expecting the bumper shocks to save my life.

As for its age, true its not "state of the art" as far as today's safety add-ons go, but does that render it an unsafe car? I dont think so.

Ones automotive intelligence has little to do with whether one's reproductive parts are on the inside or outside. Heck, look at most of the idiots at a Nopi event or on CarDomain! If you gauge it by that, the guys are WAY stupider as relates to cars.

This is what I would do:

aesthetically: get the car claybared and washer really good, looks like the paint is getting oxidized. I would personally tuck the bumpers, and get the 89 lower valance. Probably respray the faded black trim around the bumper area, and maybe shadowline the car.

engine: TIMING BELT!!! Then your general stuff, new plugs, belts, o2, and degrease the engine bay really good.

Interior: Best thing you can do is take out all the seats (pretty easy really) and scrub the whole inside down and get a good coat of armorall on everything. If your looking for upgrades, maybe some sport seats.

                    just my 5 cents.

How much work does it take to compress a bumper shock? That feature will decrease the amount of energy transfered to the car during an impact. Simple physics. The compresion should also help to lengthen the time of impact, decreasing the impulse.

Might not be much, but I'm surely not going to remove any even mariginal safety feature for purely aesthetic reasons. You might think I'm silly, but I may feel the same about you fellas.

You may be right though. Anyone who is interested in survival should forgo the E30 ethusiant's automobile, with pre-collapsed bumper struts, unpadded rollbars, and smoked tail lights. I ought to driving a new Volvo then... done.

I am detailing the car this weekend - my friend is going to claybar it and polish it up good. Its actually pretty decent paint.

The timing belt is getting done next week - the one on it is supposed to be two years old, but I want to be sure.

The interior is in like new condition. I'd like to get different seats - are the sport seats the ones like in the convertibles with the big bolsters? I like those.
