          Paying a shop to take your freon which is worth more than their labor seems silly, but sadly is the law.

          Now in real life, the last three bmw's I've owned of this vintage had non operational a/c. When the schrader valves were pressed NO pressurized anything came out. So chances are these cars went about evacuating the freon into the atmosphere on their own through bad o-rings over the course of 30 years. Unbolt and throw away.

          I'm not advocating you do this.... but a fella can easily see if his system is at all pressurized by hitting the schrader valves momentarily to see if there is anything in the lines to worry about....

                            You can just route the fuse box wires into the fender. Some of the wires will need to be lengthened, but not many.
