I tried to leave it alone

    Hi everyone,

Since I feel "Little Red" has finally gotten to a presentable point, it's time to share some pictures. I had initially (and impulsively) bought this car to be a fun DD project. One of the first things I had to address was some some rust around the antenna hole because someone put in a generic antenna once the stock power unit had broke. Once that was sorted I just drove the car around as kind of a beater for almost a year. It was called the "free30" because my friends were kind enough to donate extra parts to the cause. I had never owned an m42 e30, so I thought that it would keep me out of trouble since all you could do is install a chip and a flywheel...right?

Fast forward to April of this year: the m42 grenades a timing guide chain guide and the motor is out of commission. I had thought to put another m42 in the car, but my friends strongly suggested that I make the car a little more reliable. That's when the m50 nonsense begun. After working on the swap for most of the summer and fall, it's more or less done. There's still some items to iron out, but now it's BAR legal, so one less thing to worry about. Also, you've got to love 1-stage paint because this car was pink when I bought it. It's amazing what a cut and polish will do.

Thanks to 36brua & filthiest e30 for your help putting this car together (and numerous deli sandwhiches!).

    - stock M50TU with ZF320
    -3.23 LSD
    -e36 steering rack swap
-Bilstein HD shocks with H&R OE Sport springs (not too low for careless Joe)
    -Ronal LS wheels
-Yakima hipster rack that's been used all of once
    -US Ellipsoid conversion
    -stock radio ;D

Looks amazing! I'm hoping my M42 never blows up, but I'll likely do a similar swap if it does.

The Ronal LS wheels look fantastic. What size are the wheels? What size tires did you put on them?

Looking good! Clean, tasteful mods (and ace steering wheel). But, is the harness just sitting on top of the engine? I would at least zip-tie it up to the firewall, that could definitely lead to some problems.

I will be around this month, shoot me a PM. I'm always down to meet other e30 owners!

Thanks! The m42 was a sweet little motor, but it will live on in someone's 2002 project, so it didn't go to complete waste. As for the wheels, they're 15x7.5 with 205/55/15 tires.

Thanks! The harness is just sitting on top of the motor. Probably best to get the factory covers that make everything look neat and tidy. For now I'll take your advice and partake in some zip tie "artistry" :)

Correct! I wanted to get a picture in front of the Cliff House, but it was a zoo of both cars and people. The pics came out better than I was expecting, so works for me :)
