Noisy rockers = valve adjustment, no? What in the heck happened to your car?? lmao. Glad you're back on the road. Do you like the SETA engine better than the b25?

Not sure if anyone has seen the chaos that happened with the original motor.... but that fun can be found here

Leaving that drama out of here, and trying to get the car back on the road ASAP I rented a truck and went and got a “good running” SuperETA motor out of a 528e.

Here’s a carefully framed pic lol

    Yea it was dirty

Not one to shy away from polishing turds I spent some time getting it to this

I’ll save the boring pics but after himmin and hawin about it, we pulled the head off to swap over the I-cam, and dual valve springs. Bottom end looked good so that was a nice bonus

Car was wrapped up this past weekend and I’ve been beating it like she owes me money ever since. I definitely noticed the bump in torque, but it’s also obvious that this car needs a better cam. Also the rockers are pretty noisy so I will be replacing the head ASAP. Plan is a WOT-Tech special with a 274 cam* and new rockers.

I probably should’ve done just the head from the beginning but I obviously like to do things the hard way...

    *actual cam still TBD

Cirrusly Blue - The Daily Driver E30

Went to SoCal Vintage this last weekend. Didn’t bother washing the car haha... I did however get some more minor things done on the car. I have had new seat shocks but never really had time to do it and was a little intimidated I’d have to seats torn apart and have something missing, so I bribed Mike (Mike36) with ... I dunno, I guess I just got some nice help from someone who’s already done it and we knocked out both seats after the show

I didn’t actually take any pics when we had the seats taken apart but Mike took this when I had my head down, working. Good news, my hair still looks nice and thick lol

I also masked off the lower rocker and grabbed my SEM trim paint. It was pretty gray and faded so this was one more step closer to having just one thing left to paint... the whole damn car

No pics of the completed work because there was no before pic either lol

Woohoo! You're a better man than I for doing a slow burn motor build. It's the best way.

Added bonus is that you can change your mind on crank and pistons down the road with the parts purchasing order you're following. Buy some 135mm rods and a cheap spare block next, easy purchases and still keeps your options open (cough, S52 crank) ;D

The car leaks some oil and after these runs she definitely shows her age but luckily there’s a plan in place. And a big part of that arrived today

New main and rod bearings, and an Elring gasket kit for the bottom end. Eagle eye viewers will also notice the WOT tech crank spacer which I bought a little while ago. Still need the M52 crank & a block to build off of. Last piece will be pistons but that will depend what I can budget for at that time

But the car would fire off and run fine until I got to the end of the block and it would sputter and run like dookie until it got a bit higher in temp. If I was stopped or idling it would want to die.

Either way, super cool car and very nice progression. I don't think I could ever pay money for an automatic car again. I'm glad you swapped it though!
Cold start was solved when I swapped the injectors out. Mine were so nasty and I dont know exactly what the problem was, but I suspect while the motor was in cold-start mode there was either a larger volume or pressure of fuel being sprayed and once it was warm and the ECU dialed it back, the clogged injectors just didnt have enough to keep it idling. Regardless, new 19# injectors went in (along with the Sssquid chip for them) and the problems been non-existent.

Getting the auto was pretty much the only way to get an unmolested car. The car is slightly molested now, but at least its just been from me and not some other PO.

Finally got something done I’ve been wanting to do since I sold the Aluminum Monster. This was one of the two things I wanted from the car when I sold it. Unfortunately getting the steering wheel back wasn’t working out, but it’s as if it’s meant to be. The wheel that was in the Aluminum monster was dated very close to the build date of that car, so imagine my surprise when I saw the date on this wheel was also close to the build date of this car.

    Old Sport wheel

    And the Italvolanti

It’s a little bit smaller, which was a little surprise to me but I’ll live and worst case scenario I can swap it back, or buy another Momo wheel since this actually uses the Momo hub and not the 3-bolt hub that the old wheel used.

...It’s like my E30 starter kit is the SSR wheels and an Italvolanti steering wheel....
