So my goal is to pretty much keep this car stock with the exception of suspension, exhaust and maybe a short shift kit. I do have a question and replies are appreciated. I got the car and the odometer and trip stopped working. All the other gauges work fine. Is this is a simple fix? Thanks in advance.

This is super common in E30s. The gears wear out over time, and just fail. Usually around 160-200,000 miles. There's repair kits available, or you can send it out to e30_dad to have it restored (which would be my route for such a nice slicktop).

Thanks mike.bmw. I was looking at your thread the other day especially in terms of the new steering wheel. That could be one other thing I may change. I know I said I want to keep this mostly stock (now I can see how this can start to get out of hand lol). Anyway, have you moved forward in getting another one? Did you prefer the look and feel of that wheel vs the airbag wheel? I would prefer a smaller wheel myself.

Thanks Mike36 and I agree. Do you know if this was a factory option? It appears to be stock but I wasn't sure.

It's hard to know when to stop! ;D

I have been looking for another. For size comparison/reference, the stock 318is airbag wheel is 385mm. I'd be happy with either a well priced 385 or 370 MT2.

I prefer the look and feel of the MT2 wheel, but I prefer the positioning of the stock airbag wheel. The stock airbag wheel is a bit closer to the driver, which gives my legs/knees more clearance.

Looks similar to the armrest I had in my 240 wagon (which was a factory 240 armrest):
