Some long awaited work/upgrades to my turbo car....

I have been turbod for alittle more than a year now with my car, I still had the stock clutch and it hasnt been holding very well at all and my oil pan leaked pretty bad. Those were to very important things to fix before I drive the car more. (I have only driven it like 1k miles) I ordered a rear main, oil pan gasket, 618 pressure plate, sachs sport throwout bearing, clutchnet sprung 6 puck, new fan clutch (getting alittle warm in traffic), CSB, Guibo, urothane motor mounts, new tranny mounts and a few other little things here and there.

    The pile o' parts...

    Pulling the pan.

The 260 out of the car...

The stock pressure plate and disk have seen much better days..

Flywheel waiting for resurfacing and pan waiting for welding.

Welded return instead of a bulkhead fitting (CRAP)

Refreshed pan in and new urothane mounts (My friend Sam showing his appreciation for the project...)

    New clutch in

All in all the project went really smooth. I started at 5 on friday, got the tranny dropped and the pan out that night. Woke up the next morning at 7 to eat breakfast at my friend Sam's shops weekly breakfast at a local diner. We have his boss TIG my oil pan since I paid for breakfast. While he was doing that, Sam and I pressed on and off the center support bearing and dropped the flywheel off to be resurfaced.

That day we got the pan, motor mounts, rear main, flywheel, clutch all in the car. Then today we finished everything and just got the car going at about 11 pm tonight. I am exhausted, sleep deprived and perma greesy. There is a leak at the oil filter housing I need to fix. I fixed the others. I know alot of you wondered how the clutch would be, It is VERY ON OFF, I expected it to be though. The pedal is very stiff now from the upgraded PP. It does the job and isn't going to slip any time soon at all. I am overall very pleased other than a couple little things.

Nice work man, I love the feeling of having all new parts! I recently did an i motor swap in to my e with a brand new Sachs and a bunch of other little shit and I am loving it. Really gave new life to the car.

sounds like fun....i'm getting ready to do the same in a week or two. new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, tie rods, control arms, fixing oil leak....yeah, it's gonna be fun.

does the flywheel feel any different after the resurfacing?

      oh, and sexy car.
how much boost are you running?

        Cool stuff!

I have never had to use a press for the center support bearing, was it stuck?

I am running 10 psi right now with MS pcb 3.0 just running fuel on a stock 199k mile i motor with metric blues and new stock HG. It pulls REALLY solid. I am really happy with it. The flywheel feels exactly the same since it was just resurfaced and not lightened (which i thought about doing, but decided this clutch was going to be even more rediculous with a lighter flywheel). The center support bearing was easy, we just used the press since it was there to take it off.

what is the 618 pressure plate? is that the sachs HD pressure plate?

I love my sachs sport clutch & HD pressure plate, but of course I don't have near as much power as you. I'm also glad I only shaved down the stock flywheel rather than getting an ultralightweight one..

Yea it's the Sachs Sport/HD PP. It is a really nice unit. I am really glad I got this setup over the SPEC 6 puck because I know the reliability is much better with Sachs products. I have heard many horror stories about Spec clutches blowing up. The price difference was like 200 bucks...but I wont have to do this work again any time soon.

I need to get a new slave (mine started leaking with the new increased pedal pressure). And I need to get a oil cooler adapter gasket. Then Sam and I are going to do some more street tuning. Then it is off to HP connection for some Steady state dyno action.

B-Fra. Tell your bro thanks again for bringing back my cable. Ill give you a call when its in a better state for a ride.
