Is that the way that the cuts are supposed to go? I thought that the cuts, like the ones pictured, were supposed to stars from the bottom left and move at an angle to the right and then flatten out.

That is how my light cutoff is on the e36 M3.
US Projectors obviously have some type of different layout :)
I like my US projectors with HIDs better than my e36
The euro ellip's are adjustable with 3 screws on the back of the housing. So they can be adjusted for R or L hand drive cars. This is for the lights in e30's, i don't know about the other models.

That is close, the US elips slowly raise as they go from left to right.
