I would suggest that you give us details on what you would like to accomplish with a new car.
Are you just wanting a fuel efficient daily driver?
Into motorsports?
Want an oldskool euro showstopper?
Like me, you think that e30s are just too adorable to drive anything else?
Are you, or your boyfriend mechanics, or willing to dig into your own car? If not, I'm not sure that I'd recommend an old BMW. They're cheap when you do your own work, but independent shops can charge an arm and a leg, and the dealers are just huge rip-offs most of the time.
That being said... with fuel prices where they are, and no hope of them coming down for good, get a nice 318is. They're cute, handle well, and will get you about 25+ MPG consistently.

I am looking for a everyday car, not into racing . My boyfriend works on his own car so I am sure he'll figure out if something needs to be fixed, but hopefully I'll find one without too many problems.
How do you guys like this car ? It's also rear wheel drive, and I think engine is in the back too
