    L33T E36 Mods :) Stock Gauge FTL

    Daylight:

    Nighttime:

    Adapter:

    What was learned?

1 - Stock gauge shows straight up and down... VDO shows ~140

2 - If you get in "dirty" air on the highway or tailgate the temp rises a bit. Jump out into clean air and you get lower temps :)

Put in a new radiator while I was at it.

That placement would be perfect for a boost gauge..

Serious props for being about the first person to ever post a night shot of dash lights without it being blurry as hell.

Yes, if you didnt care about it being seen. Personally, I like the "stealth" look. Here is a pic of my old SC'd M3 with the AFR gauge, shift light, and spray light(water/meth injection) mounted behind the vent. I had everything on a switch so I was able to turn it on and off as I pleased.

And to the op, nice job on the install, how did you actually mount the gauge to the vent flaps?

the factory gauge is ment for the normal person. it tells you the engine is cold, or operating temp or hot. If it moved with the temp, as your new gauge does it would scare the shit out of all the non-gear heads that drive them.

I like your gauge placement, and had always wondered how drafting affected water temps.

That is very nice! Love it!!!!

It was dremeled out. Place the Gauge. Then glue it at the bottom and top. Run the wires out the back.

Then melt a piece off thick clear plastic over the whole I had to create in the side of the vent so it would retain the air flow :)

Can you point out what you are talking about? The open tube thing is where my alternator cooler attaches to the front. I Popped it off for the picture.

                              That dash is crooked ;)
