Another update: got a nice car cover thanks to a friend of mine :)

Has a nice integrated bag and is water resistant. The window for the rear plate is a nice feature, as are the little mittens for the mirrors. Fits perfectly. :)

Just an FYI--an E46 car cover will fit the E30 like a glove. I got lucky and found a practically new one on craigslist for $70.

$70 is not bad for a cover.

So it has been almost a year since I have updated this thread. I have been updating and editing the tags on all of the pictures since I have moved filed between albums....hopefully I will have that done soon.

Our SAAB wagon died with 233K and we got a '92 Volvo 240 to replace that. It was cheap, been reliable and comfy...it fit all the measures we set for the car.

The E30 has been incredibly reliable through the entire winter and even when our SAAB died my wife drove it in the snow and it just kept taking it, freezes, rain, sleet, long hours idling in traffic with holiday travel...I love this car more and more.

I have some more plans for the E30, all stock stuff though. I have finally been able to complete my set of 4 bottlecaps that were all full-size spares and never mounted (or barely used). The wheels are all pristine and all have the same tires: Pirelli P6's from back in the day. Those will be getting installed soon. It also needs a wash and vacumming really really bad since it has just been a workhorse and received very little attention. Now that the weather is better, it will get more attention.

The car also has to go back to the body shop...I had a small mishap happen during the winter involving a sheet of ice and turning into where I live, so I need a new lip, new clips and get the front lower valance straightened out. The mudflaps will also be removed. I've finally had it with scraping speed bumps on stock suspension.

I also picked up some black door panels from a local guy here on Long Island (*Thanks again!!!) and those will be on soon as well. A new blower motor is coming to replace the one that's squealing in there.

Hopefully I will have time this summer to re-upholster my M-Tech steering wheel that I've had for quite some time now...

            stay tuned :)

Any pics of it (on an e30 would be a plus)?

It looks great! The paint looks perfect and I love the shadow-line trim, I gotta do that to mine.

Just read through all your posts. Great job. Great attention to detail and I love that you put all your parts in zip locks. I do the same. That's how I roll too! Great idea with the fabric in the storage area for your phone and coins. The bottle caps you wet sanded and painted up looks solid. I have a set of euro weaves I need to work on when I get back stateside this summer. Thanks for the documentation.

                              Hi guys,
                              Just to provide another update:

This weekend I installed a new turn signal stalk. The original one was not doing it for the left blinker anymore so I replaced it with a new OEM and an new relay...it now sounds like a 'modern' car with a slow and steady 'click.....click....click....click' and when the steering wheel nub clicks the stalk back to center it sound all muted.

Also installed a new antenna mast. For some reason the top-most sections of the antenna masts keep getting corroded and don't let the antenna go all the way down. I keep adding tri-flow (bicycle shop teflon based lubricant) to keep it going but I end up replacing it once a year. Either way, it now goes up and down, no noises and all shiney.

It is these simple things that make me happy :)

Car is almost at 190K and smooth as ever, despite 40,000 mile Bosch Silber spark plugs

                                Hi all!
Yet another update here: 198,XXX miles and still going without the motor having been opened since my ownership of it beginning with 125,600 miles. How long is thing going to last?!?!

It has been a rough year for me and I've had to make a few choices...at one point it was likely that the E30 was going to be sold. With things back on track now I made the decision of Keeping the E30 as my only car! =D The thought of having a car payment it just not attractive, especially when I have the 325i: most reliable car I think i have had aside from an '94 Volvo 940 which was nowhere near as much fun to drive, but I respect that 940: limo status in a non-limo package.

I've just had the steering rack replaced as well as the A/C converted to R134a. I fought the latter to avoid the expense but it seems the bullet had to be bit, especially as the E30 being my main ride now, I can;t show up or meetings having sweat through my shirt. I pick the car up tonight from the tech...very excited!

I will be going to the body shop later this week...I still need to have the lower valance repaired from a slip in the icy patch entering into the building where I live: slid, hit a railroad tie and bent in the lower valance and broke the 'I' lip. sad, but not a biggie...just a pull here, pull there and some paint: good as new. Also will be spraying the sunroof panel: a few sap spots, etc, and it is easy enough to remove.

I am also looking for some sport seats now. My current driver seat is starting to split on the seat cushion, and I've been dreaming of bolstered seats since I got the damn car way back in '07...6 years later: IT'S TIME!!

                                More to come.:)
