I'm starting to really like SMG. It has a bit of a learning curve but its pretty nice. I think if I had an M6, I would opt for the SMG.

My feelings exactly. After spending some time w/ a E60 M5, it's hard to imagine it with 3 pedals. It works so well in SMG form.

The 6spd manual M5 is total garbage. It's fine when driven hard, but anything resembling 'normal' driving is almost never smooth. Nevermind the fact that the 7spd SMG is considerably quicker and can shift smoother than a torque converter automatic when driven correctly. Then you understand why BMW was so reluctant to offer a manual M5. It was engineered with the SMG in mind and is an incomplete car without it.

You ever drive a new m6? The smg works well when you're flogging it but
around town it's different, takes some getting used to. I would compare the shifting under normal driving similar to a slipping auto tranny. Definitely not a daily driver which is what my friend's wife uses it for
