Rotary-- Flame On!

It will be fun if it's set up right. Get a mechanic that specializes in rotary engines, not any old mechanic or your best friend. Rotaries sound like ass, but they sure are fun.
The 4 rotor mazda engine is a R26B. I don't think they made a street or detuned version, but if so, it's the 26B.
The inside joke Teauger was hinting was from the E30 wide body thread that some genius's decided to comment on...Leave a comment:

haha! Chase.
Aight, another day's work ahead hopefully get those #$#*^$& bolts that hold the trailing arms off today.
Also the shocks are so gone that I compressed (with one hand) the rear and hung it upside down and it still hasn't rebounded overnight.Leave a comment:

People need to stop raggin on rotaries if they have never wrenched on them before or had any first hand experience with them. People always go by what other say and what they have seen. What they see are examples of rotaries that were not taken care of. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that rotaries are reliable, but they can last a lot longer if people did what was necessary to keep them in good running condition. My first love has been rotaries, unfortunately they get horrible gas mileage, so that is why i DD an e30. I still have a rotary till this day! Running great as hell! So.....GL on this project and let me know if you need any help.Last edited by bo0stedc2; 10-13-2007, 11:19 PM.Leave a comment:

Actually:
1)the 13b is made of iron and aluminum (note aluminum housings pictured)
2)13BT is found in the FC (not what I have) 13b-rew is found in FD (what I have)

Actually the 13B isn't really a lightweight - all iron! A 13B-REW (third gen FD motor) weighs within 25lbs of the LSx series motors. But its so small you can mount it very far back and get great weight distribution. If your builder is good and the tuning is perfect, rotaries will last a long time. You gotta drive the shit out of them once in awhile, carbon buildup on seals will kill them quickly. I'll be following the progress on this build - good luck and post pics often :)Leave a comment:
