it's a black plastic valve cover. I don't think there's much you can really do with it.

all the things that have been done to these m20 covers could also be done to the plastic cover. (colors, stripes, CF, custom lettering, etc) Being plastic makes it easier, in many cases.

i'd like to see one matched to the color of the car, one with the ridges ground smooth, etc.

paint flakes off. you can't powdercoat plastic, or sand the ridges, or polish it, etc.

the CF covers are about the only thing that looks good other than new/stock.

For the knowledgeable guy you are, I'm perplexed you are telling me that plastic cant be painted.

I didn't say you couldn't paint it. But it's not going to last. I've painted lots of stuff in my engine bay over the years, paint just doesn't hold up to oils/chemicals & heat.

heck, the factory silver paint on the ridges never stays there. Just look at all those faded 24v valve covers.

                        those look really nice!

but you forgot to mask off the parts which shouldn't get painted.

Powedercoating is impervious to heat, oil, gas, solvents etc. In fact 2 4mil coats and #6 glass beads won't even take it off. Some of those parts have been on a car for at least a year.

The only thiing I have found that will remove it is a special coatings remover, regular aircraft stripper just makes it dull.

EDIT: If you are talking about the threaded holes, I bottom tap them before installation.

Are those available with the oil cap opening at the other end, and without the graphics?

Without graphics sure. The graphics on that one were painted by me. I don't know if they have obd1 covers in carbon though I can't say I really looked for them. The Dinan and Racing Dynamic versions have their logos on them though.
