You're fooling yourself. Most of the black pieces in your interior are covered in black textured rubberized stuff and are really cheap white plastic. That coating seems to evaporate off after a while, switches, trim pieces and the like will mysteriously turn white. The credit card holder and cup holder will break, and if you're not nice the radio buttons will come off.

The E46 may look cheaper inside but it definitely holds up better over time than the Audis do. My input on the matter comes from years of seeing these cars come through my bays. I'm not blindly hating on the cars, actually they're really nice when everything is working right.

especially an Audi. without a warranty. cheaper than the majority of cars its age.

so you won't pay any interest, but will for maintenance and eventually for the significant deprecation a used Audi with high miles will have.

and all this because you don't want to pony up your cash for a headgasket swap? or get a car that will be the same value a year into the future as now?

I think the audi will prove to be very reliable for me. Also, I'm doing the HG swap on the e36 and keeping it - maybe trading it for a small truck or something. As noted, the audi has already depreciated quite a bit. I imagine in 2 or 3 more years it will drop maybe another 30-40 percent. I'm okay with that. I'm not okay with paying 8% interest and experiencing 50% depreciation over 4 years on a 30k car. Do the math and tell me which is worse.

BTW - these cars sell anywhere from 13-17k in the condition mine is in. I got an exceptional deal from a family friend - and dropped the price further when I paid cash.

No one will make me feel bad for buying it - I really like it. Maybe I can bring it up to purdue and heeter can polish it for me.

Heh, keep thinking that. You can bring it up and I'll give you some new pinstripes.

This is just not true. I had an A3 which had that great interior trim. The rubber feels great and not even my three kids (when I gave it to them in order 17,17, & 16 years old that don't take care of anything and if it is possible destroy everything could not hurt the A3.

My experience with cars between three and five years old says otherwise...

I doubt I got the only two that were good. I had a 2001 A3 and a 2002 Passat, same interior same great materials.

My car is 4 years old and is mint as can be. Everything works - no leaks.
