IE exhaust and catless midpipe installed (sound added p2)

Downpipes/Midpipes with removed cat (thanks Rob) and Ireland Engineering catback installed over the weekend. All new hardware and hangers. Only problem is that since it's for an '88-'91, it's a little short so it hides under the bumper a bit....guess I know what my next project is now. ;)

It kinda melted a little bit of an under area of my Zender apron a little, but I don't really care. I must have pulled a screw out when I was fighting with the exhaust hangers because the apron droops a little on the left now. :x

Do you guys just use the microphone on your laptops when you do exhaust sound clips? I'd like to make a couple.

Yea I used a microphone with my laptop. Be sure not to get it too close to the exhaust or all you will hear is wind noise.

Not near as loud as I expected with the cat removed, much quieter than my previous setup. Loud exhausts become exhausting for daily drivers anyway (notice the pun?).
The IE exhaust will get a little louder when it breaks in though. I'll try and do a clip tomorrow.

As far as loudness goes, is there a difference really between using these euro catless midpipes and having the cat cut out and new pipes welded in?

I ask because I have a friend who owns a custom exhaust shop here in Bend, and he said that he would cut out my cat and weld new pipes in for a very good price, as a favor.
(Free movie rentals can get you a lot more than you would think... )

If the removed cat with new pipes is really loud, I will try to source a set of the catless midpipes instead.

I'd be interested in hearing your exhaust. I just installed Racing Dynamics center section with a resonator and no cat and it sounds great but I'm sure the resonator is quieting down mine a bit compared to just a muffler - and I have a Remus muffler which are typically pretty quiet. I'll try to post a sound bite if I can figure out how to.

The flash always makes it look a lot worse than it actually is. The heat sheielding under there is a little rusty, but almost everything under the car from the firewall back is pretty new. I dunno, I guess the rain must just get it dirty really fast.

I'd also like to get my cats removed sometime soon, but since i'm in CA i'd have to weld flanges on each side so i could throw them in when i have to smog the car.

Should be the same thing, I would just have it done by that guy, don't spend all your money on some euro exhaust part :)

I don't think it's actually the euro catless midpipe, looking at the parts CD, the resonator is much larger. No worries though, it performs the function I wanted it to, and I like it.
