Actually it really isn't.
I am not 100% up to date on the specifics but Canada has what they call the 15 year rule. If a car is less than 15 years old it can only be imported if it is on a certain list. Also the person importing a car less than 15 years old has to jump through hoops getting letters from dealerships and converting speedometers, etc.
However if the car is over 15 years old which an e30 obviously is, importing it is fairly easy.
I believe all it comes down to is informing your insuance company and all the things you would do for any other car as well as filling out paper work for customs and paying duty on it. Also an out of province inspection would be necessary.
In Canada importing a car more than 15 years old is really easy. I mean look at the number of old skyline on the streets of edmonton. There is talk of changing the rule to 25 years though.
