Proper Introduction: A Diamond in the rough

Hello everyone! I'm a noobie to the forum and though it was about time I introduced my self. Fortunately, this past summer i came a cross a diamond in the rough. It was a 89 325is for sale locally. The owner was asking $1000. It had been sitting for a few years. I went to check it out, and here were some of the issues.

    The bad:
    1. Suspension was completely shot. 3 out 4 springs where broken
    2. Had a slightly rough idle and grayish/black smoke
    3. Overheating/coolant leak.
    4. Small oil leak on the right rear valve cover.
    5. Slow/hesitated response when you stepped on the peddle.
    6. Paint is faded.
    7. Rust. some surface rust and rust in the rear wheel wells and battery area.

    The good:
    1. I ended up offering $500 and thats what i got it for :D.
    2. Full and detailed maintenance records.
    3. All original booklets/pamphlets and manuals.
    4. Interior was in good shape
    5. Was only leaking oil from the VC and coolant from one hose. Other then that, the engine bay was fairly clean.
    6. Electronically sound, everything worked as it should.
    7. Engine was rebuild. Parts like the muffler, pads, and belts etc. were done within 20-30k

    Work done:
    1. Idle/smoke was an easy fix. Replaced Icv boots. Coolant temp senor and another sensor i can remember what its called... Engine is now running smooth and strong.
    2. Overheating/leak was an easy fix as well. Some idiot spliced two peaces of coolant hoses together to make it one. Replaced it.
    3. Oil leak. I replaced the VC gasket and the 4 little rubber things. Painted the VC as well.
    4.Oil change etc.
    5. New suspension. I went with Bilstein and eibachs.

    My plans:
1.Body restoration. This month I'm working on the body work and fixing all the rust! I hope I can have it ready for paint at the end of the month.
    2. All new breaks coming soon.
    3. Something special for the body, starts with M.
    4. Leather restoration. Or ether swap to my Houndstooth sport interior. The leather is ok but too hard.
    5. Restoration of my IX 15" weaves. I'm going to run them with spacers as winter wheels.
    6. Some New rims for the summer. Maybe ESM bbs 16x9. We'll see how they come out!
    7. Engine swap once I reach 1,000,000 miles.;) Seriously though, My engine is running very well and strong, might as well keep it for as long as I can. Plus she only has 296k. Four more 4k's and she'll be broken in...

    And now the pic's.

You can see how the springs were broken on the drivers side!

    Interior.

You can see the old oil leak.

    Some rust repair.

My Old e30. Should have never sold it! :(

And to finish off, Here are some teasers.

    Thanks for reading,
    Fran

For that price, you got a great deal. Even if there is some rust on the car.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Big mistake buying that eibach pro-kit. You will always wish the front was lower.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed at first. I thought they would have been stiffer( should of got h&r's). The only reason i got them was cus they were on sale for $200.

You can snag some H&Rs for 200. Just gotta have it on hand and your eyes open.
