Minor update......replaced rear shock mounts since the original ones were Fu**ed, valves been adjusted a few times since I ran into some problems with the valvetrain. Every vacuum hose was replaced and a new fan was installed since I broke the old one after the first valve adjustment, ratchet key should always be removed before start-up :D manifold in place and valvecover replaced, strut-bar in front and front sway-bar upgraded to 22mm from H&R. Finally got my wheels, needed spacers so I went with 13mm spacers along with new bolts of course. Car runs fine but still searching for the final bugs, idle isn´t as smooth I would like it to be so that´s become my project for now. Have limited time and money is of short supply, good things take time.....right :-) including a few pics and a short video of how your shock mounts should NOT behave.
New mount Vs. Old mount.
Installation was a bitch :)
Before spacers:
After spacers:
And a small video of the old mounts:

Hoping to do a drive-by video soon, just need to find someone to hold the damned thing and a nice stretch of asphalt.

Well I think it´s in order to update my status on this forum, have other forums but in 2 different languages so copy/paste is not an option. The car hasn´t changed that much since last posting, do have yellow headlights and foglights but that´s pretty much it :)
I don´t use the car that much at the moment and during the coldest winter-months I will probably park it. I am building an engine which will be installed during spring/early summer. Am really looking forward to the final result and especially looking forward to finding out how "she´s" going to sound at WOT. Now for a few pics, this is what I started out with.
And then the teardown started, didn´t take too long but very edu-mu-cational
Quick photoshoot of the new crank on the block !
Block still had honing marks and looked pretty healthy.
Apply soap and water.
Sanding, de-greasing and a splash of heat tolerant spray-paint does wonders.
Then I turned to the head and started removing valves and getting everything cleaned. Took a couple of nights, I´m not stressed and try to enjoy and learn as much as possible in the process. Also....I like taking breaks and drinking beer :D but this is what I ended up with, pretty clean !
When this was done I drove the block to a local company to get it bored and the top shaved. Am very pleased with the results and will be taking the head to the same company for porting and flowmatching.
Then I momentarily ran out of cash.....killed time by cleaning all the parts I will be re-using. I sanded and painted most of the parts to make them look as nice as possible. This was a cheap little sub-project and very satisfying to see the results.
There have of course been some complications but I see it as a part of the job....stroking means you have a larger crank which will always take up more space, this was a known "problem" and was relatively easy to solve.
This is an NA project that will hopefully put a smile on my face, it will never be worth the money if we talk "Dineros per Horsepower" :)
Jim and Mary at MetricMechanic supplied internals along with other smaller bits and pieces, go-fast stuff
The engine will of course end up in my Touring, my family-wagon.....the car the Griswalds would have driven had they been germans :D

You are really rebuilding an engine the way it should be. It's looking really good man, keep it up!

Loving it!! What kind of crank are you using and whats the bore? Are you building the 2.8 liter stroker that MM offers?IG: deniso_nsi Leave me feedback here

Love the wheel choice, but the front doesn't seem to really need those spacers. Wish there was a little more tire! And slammage.
EDIT:
I like where this touring is headed!Last edited by M42Technik; 11-29-2009, 12:33 PM.Reminiscing...

The crank comes from an M52B28TÜ and is in good shape, the bore is 86mm with MM 3200 Rally pistons with a 10,5:1 compression ratio.
During break-in period I will be using chip, VEMS install and dyno-tuning will be done after break-in.
I am a student so things go slower than I´d like them to :) but summer of 2010 is the current plan, hoping that will stick

^You painted them didn't you?
You should have used yellow lamin-x.. they're 25% off until the end of December.
As for the volvo lip, it looks a little outta place.
The rest of the car looks great though!
I love the poke and that stance is spot on.
