    Shims

Italians pride themselves on their regular use of shims, rather engineering things to fit well har har har

Dutch Blue, sounds like livestock or an act you can pay for in Amsterdam.

Another trip to El Segundo. Another cool backdrop

Im home this weekend so hoping to get the prep work done on the trunklid, because my buddy didnt have the time to handle that part. If I can get it prepped properly I am confident he will handle the final coat of Dutch Blue...

Looks good. The black rockers and lower fenders don't look bad to be honest. Its a different look, but not necessarily a bad look.

Took the car out yesterday to go meet up with some buddies. Drove by this spot which I used to see all the time when I worked in El Segundo

Overdue, but mini update... Car got home right before I left town so I havent done much other than pull it out to take some pics of the current state of affair. Still having trouble finding someone to help with paint, but it appears I have some traction in that. We'll see...

Lining up the center section was probably the biggest challenge. I think I roughed it in pretty damn close.

A bit of buildup was needed where thin & crappy sheet metal just kept burning away.

Final blend. A touch of Bondo will fill up those tiny crevices.

You can't really see the other patches, but they're there to better seal the compartment. From the factory, it was an open chamber, which is probably how water got in and it rusted to much in the first place. ...I didn't seal it totally, but at least there's not a large entry way for road debris to get in.

This doesn't need to be pretty, it's going hidden by the outer panel.

Couple of pics.. Here I'm probably halfway through the process. The rust is cut out, and I've already welded in one of the new strips of metal that acts as the new base for the new panels to bond to. The primer paint is a special, weld-thru primer, so the metal is protected even as I cover it up and weld on the other side.

I had to patch up extra parts where the rust really ran up the side.
