however i have the opportunity to buy a second e30 Eta (4 door) with a bad motor that 1 may get an n54b30 with mti or an s54 with a built bottom end and a t85 turbo or something equally nasty but i have not made up my mind yet

What goes in a "built" bottom end? I would think all bottom-ends have to be "built" otherwise you'd be missing con rods and what not...?

You know there would be absolutely NO need to TOUCH the n54 if you managed to stuff it into an e30.... and a t85? It's a twin turbo motor from the factory.

One big turbo can often be a shitload better than two smaller turbos.

It's not going to be locked. He's actually making progress and since I'm not quite sure where this thread went (started with a rebuild from hydrolock leading into a built motor? Now we have a turbo going onto an abandoned attempt at a stroker motor?) It's fun to follow, but we're still waiting for the culmination.
