Got the car started yesterday and it idles fine after a few noob things I overlooked in my haste. It turns out I had my oil pressure and temp sender plugs wrong but still the same issue. So the plug that goes to the temp sender has to wires but only one gets used right? Once I get my Z3 temp switch I will install the cooling system and see if that helps. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like you have the engine wired wrong.

Try taking out the sensor and dumping it in some cool water while its plugged in, see if it changes the reading.

Swapped temp senders and still the same thing. Unplugging the sensor does the same thing as well so the gauge isint getting a signal from the sensor. Is it possible that I put the wrong connector on it? Are there any other single pin connectors that I could have mixed it up with?

If I turn the car to position 2 the temp gauge is pegged at red rather than blue like normal. There is no coolent in the car.

The DME and gauge temp senders could not have gotten switched because the DME is a two prong and the gauge is a single prong. The wire going to the gauge sender is brownish with a whitish stripe.
