Oh I gots updates, son. Just been without my camera for a few days...
We pulled the engine and fail-0-matic yesterday:
Look at that engine bay, so clean. I'll make it clean...er.
This is why the floor pans have to be replaced...
I'm hoping we can just patch and fix this crossmember for the seats. If not, I'll just go hack one out of a U-Pull-It car:
Passenger side, not quite as ravaged, but will still be replaced:
Kick-ass sticker Andrew made for me:
Look at that reverse rake! W00!

Shaving the bay would mean repainting it, no dice. The paint in there is very good, and the bad spots will be hidden by the engine when it's back in there. The paint on this car overall is VERY good, so I'm trying to keep as much of it original as I can.
Here's a few pics of the cleanup in the bay so far, this is after a spray bottle of super clean a few shop rags, and a couple of toothbrushes:
Imagine what it will look like after I get in there with a bottle of cutting compound.
But in the meantime, we'll just have to settle for my dumb ass in there:

I can dig it. I have wanted a MkI since my dad sold his '84 GTi before I could drive.
I have some red MkI GTi seats in my garage that I have beed saving for the project to come...
Good luck with the project, keep it 8v!Comment

Go to your local napa and they can mix up some single stage in a can. Might cost around 15-25.00.. Worth it.Comment
