Hey guys, after much delay, I have made some progress.

Added some more heat shielding out onto the firewall

Also gave my headers another coat of silicone

            put in a PS delete

Nick cut me a plate to mount the MC directly to the firewall. We had to chop up and flare some donor brake lines, cause the stockers weren't long enough anymore..

then i brought the car home for the final assembly

finally got my fucking half shafts out from the hubs. It took 3 people and a monster sledgehammer

            installed the new shafts

check this bs out! my powerflex bushing inverted up into the subframe. WTF?

            dropped the motor/tranny in

the brake MC interferes with one of the coils. Im gonna figure out a way to remote mount the coil. More on that later.

After alot of trial and error with wiring, and with the help of my friends Julian and Brian, we got it started. Hopefully this video works...

            VIDEO

More progress on the way. Thanks for looking. -Matt

You can remote mount the coils fairly easily. Just make sure your leads are well insulated from grounding on other stuff in the engine bay and won't chaff on anything.

This build it giving me some motivation :) Also I found it interesting you used V-bands to clamp the exhaust together - why is that?

shouldnt there be a big washer on the subframe bushing to hold the lip solid?

I used v bands for easy removal. and to have the ability to swap in a non catted y pipe. As opposed to what? Welding everything?

Powerflex doesnt provide any washers with the bushings. They want you to use factory washers. Once i get a replacement, I am gonna use some large washers.

Nice... V-bands are the hotness. They don't leak, can self-align when you tighten the clamp and can deal with a slight mis-alignment, and don't have any gasket material that ever has to be replaced. We're using them on our broke-ass-no-budget E30 V8, and taking the budget hit (for the lowest cost eBay versions we could find) - that's how much I believe in them. I've got them on all of my cars that I built exhausts on. I won't use anything else.

That's weird... were you supposed to re-use the stock upper/lower washer "pieces"? That's what we did, but we made our own Nylon subframe mount bushings (total PITA - don't do this no matter how broke you are, trust me!) so I'm unfamiliar with the Powerflex set-up.

Your E30 LS1 project is looking good - keep up the good work! We're doing the same thing with the brake MC - direct mounting to the firewall via an adapter plate, without a vacuum booster - so please let us know how it works/stops/feels as soon as you drive it. :)

                        Thanks,

Ah fair enough - just wondering why you didn't go 2/3-bolt flanges, that's all.

I might have to do something similar on mine.

Update: the manual E36 brakes on our E30 suuuuuuuucked at the GRM Challenge event last weekend. :(

VERY high pedal effort needed, terrible balance, total lack of stopping power without hundreds of pounds of pedal effort. We're going back to square one on that.
