not an e30...but a e34 touring turbo project

I swapped in a 5 speed and a s52 last fall in my e34 525iT but it just wasn't enough so I have been planning a turbo build sense. I pulled the engine yesterday and plan to have it running by the middle of next week. I will update this thread as much as I can or post any questions I may have.

I really don't have any good pictures of the car itself other than on the lift. I will be sure to post some once I get the outside cleaned up.

    Some details on the build

    Stock S52
low boost - starting at 8.7psi on a spring but will see how things go from there.
    SPA bottom mount
    42lb injectors
draw through 803 w/ TRM tune
    60-1 .82 a/r turbo
    PLX gauges
    3" mandrel exhaust, two magnaflows
clutchnet 6 puck and red PP on a stock DMF.

I pulled the engine Friday, safety wired the OPN, had a oil return welded to the pan, and started pulling a few things off.

Today I bolted up the manifold...those 24 nuts are a bitch on an spa manifold. Clocked the turbo and started to get that bolted up....I need some more bolts for the oil feed flange. I also made a bracket to hold the IC and the new spot for the radiator.

Some people may wonder why I have the compressor clocked that way. I am going to run the IC pipe up along the strut tower and through a 3" gap between the strut tower and the AC lines then a single 90 turn towards the IC.

Here are a few pics from the days work.

Debating if I need to make a mount on the top of the IC/radiator or if the radiator hoses will be enough pressure to hold it in place. I will not be running an mech fan but will have a pusher and possibly a very thin puller as well.

danny: no it is a sedan. I have seen that ti around town. It was for sale out at wieland truck sales a year ago.

Ran into my first problem...compressor hits the steering linkage. Anyone interested in a 60-1... $450 shipped, never used

I'm failing to place a visual on your routing for the IC piping.

Either way this looks like to be a very promising build.

The new turbo that should fit will be here sometime tomorrow. Pulling the engine back out tomorrow...its not really in now anyway. Should have it back in again thursday with the turbo that will fit and then I can continue. The plan was to be running by the end of the week but I don't think that will happen....maybe in the next week.

                          we will see

                            Small update...

Pulled the engine back out today and pulled the 60-1. Started on the exhaust from the back. Did a few odds and ends, put the chip in the ecu, started wiring up the gauges, swapped over the 42lb injectors, replaced the intake and TB gaskets, replaced the ICV hoses. Should I JB weld the ICV connector to the intake manifold? I got a new one so the O ring is tight. I am not going to be running HUGE boost so should it be ok?

The SPA turbo came around 2pm today and I got that bolted up. It is slightly smaller than the 60-1, it seems like it is a little shorter as well as being a bit closer to the block and the manifold so I should be good.

I am going to drop the engine back in in the morning and working on the IC piping and finish the exhaust. I feel like there is a ton to do but I am actually pretty close.

This will be the first exhaust I have built and so far I am really happy how it is turning out. Pretty fun as well.

                            Here are a few pictures.
