Car was underwater at one point, shits fucked. finding a new shell.
This car has atleast 4 major rust holes. too much to bother fixing the one in the trunk seems to go on forever. Car will be parted out. Which is a BIG disappointment as i cry to baby jesus every time another E30 comes to the end of its life.
I had planned to redue everything in the transmission from head to toe. Pulling the transmission took 4 saturdays working 4-6 hours at a time. you know why it took so long? Fuck BMW for making those two transmission bolts nearly impossible to reach, i got the one closer to the passenger side with an array of extensions, the other one took atleast 4 hours because the extensions wherent working. I went to harbor freight to buy more shitty extensions that would make me inevtibly commit suicide because harbor freight extensions are more horrible then watching Rachel Ray's new talk show for .52 seconds, while there my freind told me to pick up this...
except i bought a 3/8th one. Within two minutes of fandangling this behind the intake manifold that bolt was off, and the tranny was out. Thank you harbor freight, you are a gift from god.
But Now Im looking for a Clean. Rust free shell or a good cheap E30 i can use he very few useable parts from this car on. This transmission will be painted Lime green, i will be the first asshole with a lime green E30 transmission .
This is my oil soaked clutch, you know why its oil soaked, because the shitty mechanic this guy took his car too didnt tighten the bolts around the oil pan at all, resulting in th part near the bell housing to leak like a siv, I took off the bell housing and a quart of oil or more spilled out...so I'll need a new clutch.
After a Power washin
Looking into picking up a shell ASAP, anyone has a good one close to me PM me.
Yea, somehow the sound deadening rusted, but there are still 4 major holes, one per floorboard(typical E30 Spot) and both the rear wells, there's Nothing at all left of that jack well, nothing, the whole thing needs to be cut out more, and I don't have access to a welder, so I'll cut my losses now and part it out. this guy must have had no idea his trunk was rusted out. The car was clearly underwater at one point, and then this guy has an obsession with the beach, so the car sat at the beach for years and years, further helping the rust. I'll get a better picture of the hole. Nothing is really use full on this car except the drive line.
I bought a zinnoberrot 85 ETA for $500 off craigslist, bought it with blown brake lines. its got over 232k and has a whole bunch o new parts.Unfortunatly its auto., Replaced brake lines, drove it around for awhile. Then decided to do the timing belt and waterpump as a peice of mind thing. In the process destroyed my radiator because of the stupid ATF lines. After putting everything back together and starting it the first time my car starts spewing ATF as if it where an offshore oil well. Again these stupid ATF lines.
So Im leaving for a week, do i order lines and replace, or convert it to 5 Speed? How hard are replacing these lines? And which ones do i need from pelican...its leaking right above my steering rack. I really need to knows this.
do i need to drop the tranny or do anything fancy?Or will it be strait up easy to replace? I'd love to have a 5 speed E30, but hate to have to take it off the road for so long :/
If you were smart you kept all the parts to convert the pedal bracket and clutch setup.
It would take you around 8 days or more to do it... JK
I do them in a day in and out, I have a lift though.
Get yourself a cherry picker to unbolt the engine and lower the rear end of the engine to get it out faster. Bend up a brake line big enough to fit into two male ends to screw into the slave cylinder and the bottom end of the clutch fluid cylinder.
With a friend I can see you getting this done in a few days.
