Nope, I'm still kicking ideas for that around, but I have a general idea of what I want to do, just need to start working on it again. My main goal is getting this fucking car driveable, I'm really pissed that it's been total car-weather for the last month, and it just sits in my garage gathering dust.

Picked up my muffler today, and the car goes in Monday morning at 8am.

Josh, what was the brand/type of bedliner you used in the engine bay? I need to use some on my new motorcycle project.
      S50'd

DupliColor spray-in bedliner, any auto parts store with a decent paint selection will have it.

Free Shipping - MagnaFlow XL 3 Chamber Mufflers with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Mufflers at Summit Racing.

It's only $61, and combined with the Magnaflow I'll have in place of the cats, I don't think it will be too loud, but I find conflicting information on the noise level. Single 3" in/dual 2.5" out is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. All of their mufflers look the same, but there's a dozens of them in the single 3" in/dual out configuration, varying in price from $60 to $150, and I don't know what the difference in them is.
The packing used in the muffler is the key. I am the aforementioned roommate Yoshi's talking about, and with just the Borla ProXS and the cat, you could hear me coming from an eighth of a mile away. Keep in mind I bought the longest 2.5" diameter metal matrix cat I could find (14" substrate, 18" total length) for this, and that helped a lot more than I expected in quieting the exhaust down. I added a 28" long Magnaflow muffler that weighs about 10lbs and that dropped it down to a block or so now. The more expensive ones have more packing; the cheap ones are empty chambers that will serve to only alter the frequency of the exhaust, not the amount of noise produced.

That dude's work is utterly terrible; I hope the next shop does better.

Just got done hacking all of that shit out from under my car. I never knew it was possible to feel so relieved and so pissed off at the same time.

              Josh,

Did you get the car back from the exhaust shop? I'm preparing to jump into an M50 swap very soon, and I'm anxious to see your outcome! I hope it turns out to be everything you want it to be!

I did get the exhaust done, and it's very well done, but it's very loud, way louder than I wanted. I didn't have time/cash to order the Vibrant I wanted, so I ended up picking up a Flowmaster for cheap, just so he'd have SOMETHING to put under it. It sounds good, it's just way too loud, and at about 3k, it has a really ricer-sounding rasp. I'll get something better under there late, but for now, it drives.

What I really can't figure out right now is why I have 7 qts. of oil in the thing, and it still barely shows up on the dipstick.

                  What dipstick are you using?

I can only assume it's an E34, the whole engine came from an E34 with the oil pan attached, and the dipstick and tube were also already on it.

                          Josh,
Thans for the update! Do you mind posting the cost for the exhaust work?

                          I'm not familiar with 'Vibrant'...

Oh and the name you probably didnt't recognize on FB that tried to friend you was moi :)

You're right, but I need to know now how to fix it. I really don't like how loud and raspy it is, and there isn't room to add anything else.

I had ebay headers, Y down to 2.5" with a two vibrant mufflers and it was loud and really raspy. I went through a could different mufflers and it still had it. Ended up yanking the ebay headers and went with stock e36 m3 stuff from the headers to the tail pipe, including the cat.

I had the 3k rasp as well...hated it. I think it was from the headers or the cheap Y they used.

I'm kind of wishing I'd just kept the stock exhaust manifolds now. But there's got to be some way to quiet the system down with the ebay headers.
