Finshed sanding all the glue off the hard top and then went over it with the 3M 220 grit paper, man is that stuff good quality. As I got near the end of the job I inlisted my dad's eye to touch up any spots I missed.

Then we threw it on his car, since mine is still in the frame shop, and drove it to my friend's house to fill, primer and paint it this week and then clear coat it next week. All in time for bimmerfest.

it never really drove straight. both towers were bent, and the frame. $1272 to get it all fixed. it's perfect now. 18 hours of rack pulling time and 4 hours of alignment.

Wow! I thought I had it bad when I had to replace the struts and sub-frame because they were bent. It sounds like you are doing it the right way and I am sure that you will be happy when it is all done. You know that the top is Kevlar so use good primer on it to make sure the paint will stick for a long time. I have seen this done before, be ready for lots of time in the body work to make sure it comes out straight. I would use a long board sander for this job.

              Cheers,

              Jim

I'm having a close friend do the priming and painting for me.
he shellaced the bad spots. now it will get 3 layers of primer and more sanding.
                then base paint Sunday.

he is using sherwin williams automotive primer and real gun/booth.

Supper busy day today. My dad and I did a timing belt/water pump/cat back for a local guy.
Then I mounted my wire harness cover. Thx to people here who gave me the item numbers so I could get the parts.

you take out the old harness. there is also a lot of modding to the plastic to get room for all the studs. it took me almost an hour to get it in and perfect.

yes i had to cut a lot of holes and it still touches the back of the intake manifold.

Looks great, inspiring me to now move my battery to the trunk, and to get that plastic cover I had leftover for my M42 into my engine bay (plus the battery tray cover).

I just spent the last 12hours wiring in an amp and switching the battery to the trunk. all to find out the the wire was 6" too short.
