I too will have to deal with vanos BS myself pretty soon. Ive got the surge up and down and occasional die at a cold start. Looks pretty easy, like you'all said "its like a big puzzle"

Finished up cleaning and laying a coat of paint on the valve cover. Did the last bits of the VANOS unit as well. New washers, new seals, ect... should purr like a kitten now.

good luck with it. It really isnt hard to reassemble that thing.- what are you doing for setting up the vanos unit?

Beisen System's VANOS seals and aluminum "O" ring for the rebuild. I have the VANOS timing tool, cam locks, cam installation tool, ect, ect... also. Should help with putting everything back together. You know, having the "proper" tools. Definately worth investing in considering I don't expect to have another M20 powered E30 for awhile to come.
