That's the car that started my love for German cars. Its a 1989 Jetta Coupe with a VR6 making 200whp. I just recently installed a short shift kit in it. I just came from a night run around the city!

Its for sale if you're interested, but its in Canada so bad news for Americans unless of course you know someone that can make it happen

            Thanks

Engine came out this weekend, just uploaded the pics tonight....sleepy tired no can type

This is probably going to be the before shot of the engine bay:

Is there anyway to tell if a steering rack is leaking without hooking everything up? What a mess!

            What is this for?

Next up clean up engine bay, prep, paint and maybe wire tuck.

That funky bracket prevents the engine/transmission from shifting forward and severing your radiator hoses and/or pushing the fan in to the radiator upon an engine mount failure.

Wow! Love the Vdub. This e30 will be sick, especially seeing what you can produce :). Keep us posted.

Critique and Pictures on Ebay E30 M20B25 cat back exhaust

I recieved my ebay exhaust and fog lights on the weekend. Here's some pics of the cat back exhaust from speedyracerparts on ebay:

                  My $169 Exhaust:

I also bought the Bav Auto Muffler Installation kit Part#325I88 EIK - Fits Great on the muffler and includes the seals, bolts, copper nuts, exhaust hanger donut things and a extra set of nuts? All for $57.90 shipped.

Ok now for the nit picky shit:

Other then the rust above I think its Great Value for the money.

I checked it with a magnet, stainless steel doesn't work with magnets - and I guess its stainless because the magnet has no attraction to the exhaust. Although this is supposed to be polished, why does this hanger look like paint is flaking off

Ok now to highlight some of the good:

                  The bends are really smooth

I am going to wait and see how these tips look like when its all mounted - Maybe it won't look as bad as they do sitting on my coffee table. Like I said above the exhaust actually looks really nice, it has some flaws but for $169 I think its a deal. I'll post some sound clips once I have everything back together.

The car is going to be low and slow....except I'm doing a 5 speed swap now, I got the tranny, shifter, flywheel and clutch for a $160 and the pedals for $55, all I need now is the manual drive shaft, a shifter arm, and clutch line hydraulics. I'd like to swap out the steering rack at this point and get the starter rebuilt, but I'll have to sell my other car first. Regardless there is still a ton of shit that I can do before I'll need to worry about getting a new steering rack

                    More Work

Do they look like Iphone pics?

So found a driveshaft, then started working the on shifter, bought a shortshifter from eBay, new bushings from pelican and a uuc dssr selector rod.

Then I snagged a E36 M3 steering rack steering rack on Ebay for $149.00 shipped.

Of course I need to do the brakes as well and since I'm there the suspension bushings should be done too....damn this getting out of control :)

I've already spent more on the car then I can sell it for, so I think I'll keep it for a little while....maybe

Great progress. But, I just had to add what you stated about the E30 community is soooo right. I also have another car, as you can tell from my screen name, and there is no comparison in the community between the groups.

The E30 forums (not just this forum but all E30 forums) are like a family. Everyone really goes way above the call of duty to help each other out.

                                Ebay Short Shifter

Yes generally speaking everyone I've met so far has been of the superior grade of humanity!

Just in case you guys are curious here are some pics of the short shifter I got on ebay for $22!

Sorry I installed it into the shifter arm before taking comparo pics

Looks like it should work, its also slightly heavier and one piece - this means I'll feel all sorts of vibrations. The pivot ball fits perfectly, but the lower plastic bushings supplied were too small so I had to drill them out slightly.

The stock selector rod has a 9mm diameter I managed to find a drill bit in my tool box that was exactly 8.9mm - snug fit for now :)

I'm second thinking the purchase of the UUC DSSR, after mocking up all the shifter stuff together I think a new shift rod coupler will remove most of the side to side movement the DSSR is supposed to eliminate. If anybody has an opinion on this please chime in.
