So apparently I'm not very good at keeping up with this build thread...
We were super under-prepared for last years competition and it went pretty much accordingly and not without some much unwanted drama. But it didn't blow up and I was certainly thankful for that. We also met a lot of good people (albeit briefly) and had a lot of fun at the competition. Thanks Condor Speedshop for the Lug bolts! Anyway, you all can check out the build blog (which I have actually been updating) if you're interested in last years competition and the progress since... eldiablospeedshop.com
We'll be bringing the car to this years competiton later this month, anyone else going? The biggest difference in the car this year will be that its actually running and we can now control boost. We've had it running around for a month or so with a knock-off ebay external wastegate that has been working pretty well. Here is a recent pic

And here is a short vid of some messing around we did last weekend. You can see that it still burns quite a bit of oil off throttle. I think it has to be valve stem seals so I'm going to try some of that stop leak seal conditioner oil additive and cross my fingers. It's not that big of a deal but it does foul the plugs pretty bad and fills the cabin with nasty fumes (one major downside of the exhaust out the hood).

Good luck!!! Undecided if I will make it this year but I at $2011 a wheel almost hit my daughter and I getting a hot dog for lunch at the concession stand.
Have you tried restricting the oil feed for your turbo? 4an at 40psi is too muchComment

Ahahahaha, I remember the wheel!! I might go as a spectator this year just because I'm already in the area. Good luck!

As if I didn't already feel bad enough about the wheel! It won't be happening again... I couldn't find a straight answer about the restrictor so we have not tried one yet. It has a 12an drain and many that would be fine as long as we didn't load it up with cold oil... We'll try a restrictor and see. Thanks.
Thanks. It is an 885 head.Originally posted by Pantless Spencywow :megusta:
is that just an 885 valve cover or is it a whole 885 head?Comment

Right now the valve cover is vented to atmosphere. It doesn't really smoke at all idle, only on start up and when the throttle is shut and there is load on the engine (high vacuum), so that's why I was thinking it was primarily valve seals. Either way I can see how running vacuum to the crank case may help. I assume you run it through a PCV valve?Comment

at first I just a ran a line straight to the turboinlet but it sucked a bunch of oil up and made a few of my couplers slip. SO I added a catchcan and I've never had issue with overly oily pipes again and teh car idles real solid.
My car idles much smoother with vacuum(helps everything seal) and it completely stopped smoking on overrun.
