The restoration begins... Pics updated 8/13/11 (Page 4)

As some of you may have already seen this car around these boards, it was initially purchased by Paul, then Erick, Dan, me and finally my good buddy Paul. (different Paul)

Would like to share a story on a little e30.

I bought the car back in December of last year from a buddy of mine in hopes of using her as a dd and occasional track toy.

Before my buddy Dan owned it.

First time seeing her while under Dan's ownership

As I saw it pull in the parking lot, I said out loud, "damn that's a clean e30" and what do you know, a year or two later I bought it from Dan. I bought it on a whim at Qualcomm Auto-x when Dan called and said he had some electrical problems behind the dash.

Funny thing being, I bought the car not physically being able to drive it. Due to a back injury I'm stuck in a wheelchair which limits me to an automatic transmission. Dan's car was obviously a manual so I called my buddy Paul and we went onto designing a set of hand controls. The project got too costly, complicated and potentially unsafe.

Considering Paul was my "chauffeur" for the time being, he also fell in love with the car and offered to pay what I paid if I was to ever sell it. He also got bored one afternoon and decided to fix all the wiring nightmare left over from Dan :D

Pretty much everything was put together and the car sat at my house for another few weeks till I finally decided to let it go to Paul.

Paul picked her up March of this year and the tear down for paint begun 2 weeks ago. We took everything off the car, windows, trim, sunroof, bumpers, etc...

My GF took a break from the kitchen and gave us a hand!

    Rocco guarding the parts

Taking out the sunroof, first time had to refer to the Bentley

My M3 had to spend the night outside while the e30 was in its bed missing body parts

The tow truck came to get her the next morning

Brought to the shop in one piece, the guy was a complete noob

    At the body shop

Sanding the five coats of paint off the hood

    to be continued...

Damn this is going to be sweet! That's a slick looking M3 you've got there too.

How long did removing all the trim pieces and bumpers take? Did you remove the door cards and side windows at all?

Took about 7 hours. Door cards are off, windows are out all parts that are being painted are broken down completely. =)

Alright guys, here's an update on my e30. I went over to the shop to help take care of an uneven fender issue and few other minor things as Adil pulled up to snap a few pics...

Manuel had to get creative and weld studs onto some areas especially the fender after they were rolled to make things nice and even.

My buddy's Big'Oly trophy truck that I helped build, getting some body panels painted.

and an example of a clean Porsche that is in the works. Still waiting on Manuel to color sand and apply another 3 coats of paint along with some clear...

feels good to know the guy painting my car does such amazing work!

Adil's cheap ass e36 wishing it was getting painted :D

                    More updates to follow...

Today Some more body work was finished, Windshield and back window taken out and started priming the car.

Sorry for the crappy pics. Had to use my cell phone today.

A little bit more car porn:

If anyone in the SoCal area is looking for body work let me know and I can get you hooked up with the owner. This place is no joke and pumps out high quality restorations everyday! Definitely not your average body shop.

                        More updates soon
