Thanks again guys .... I'll finally have another two good size updates coming in the next week-ish!

In the mean time .... some of you may have seen my best robot impression on the Clarion Builds 2002 project (I was NOT comfortable on camera, thank goodness for editing).

Working on the Clarion project was interesting, the guy at Clarion who was setting things up behind the scenes was an old customer. I was really skeptical at first, thinking it was going to be another obnoxious stereo monster, but they kept things really nice and understated.

The actual labor was primarily done down at Erik's shop (Coupe King), it's a crazy place if you haven't been there....

(photo NOT mine, spot the m3 ... and the tii engines.)

Why I bring this up now is that the car is finished and they're having a "press" shindig this coming week. Apparently Mr. Chris Forsberg will be putting the car through it's paces (and be giving ride-alongs). I'll try to take some pictures!

I really like the interior & exterior color choices they chose.

And that shop is straight outta my dreams.

I promise I'm still working on this, have some substantial progress to post in a bit.

but for some unsubstantial fun .... picked up these bits up this last weekend on Ebay!(they were miss-listed, came up purely by chance). Period Vilem B. Haan window levers and door handles.

Neat story about Haan ... http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/...feature16.html

                  Alright, stuff has been happening!

Top of the list is pistons. As you will recall I did go through all the work on making nice offset dish pistons with Ross, but I always felt a bit off about it.

I want an engine that will be able to run 200k and that just wont happen with traditional forged pistons. I also wanted something that had the same piston to bore clearance as stock (eliminating piston slap and oil blow-by on startup) but not be brittle like a cast or 4032 alloy.

Fortunately last year Jeff sent me to SEMA and I got to talk to the guys at MahleMotorsport. They had a neat new-ish forging alloy called M142 that offered just the balance I wanted.

Fast forward through the development period and we ended up with a very tidy piston! Slipper skirts, cnc'd offset dish, graphal coated skirts, phosphate coated, no pin encroachment on the oil ring, powerpack rings, etc. I wrote a full .pdf on them if anyone would like more details.

They are speced for 84mm stroke, 85mm bore, 10:1 comp.

Right now I've got the block at the machinist to double check things before offering them publicly. ... and yes, the reason behind making these was completely selfish, I wanted them.

Fiddling around with the itb's I've found the Nuke fuel rail won't clear the linkage when running the Type 3 injectors. I have the option of using Type 2's (and the nuke rail) or the type 3's (and the stock rail).

Next up, seeing that the drivetrain is FINALLY almost finished I've started breaking down the car! The engine will be mocked up and new holes cut prior to starting the serious body work.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out I considered the NA 6cyl route myself but had a change of heart!

Thanks, fortunately I got to ride/drive in a number of different types of 2002's before committing. M10's with sidedrafts, M10 turbo, two M42's, F20, and a couple M20's. The M20 swapped cars were just more fun for me. Different strokes, different folks.

Good luck on your project, looks like you are doing in right! I know there's another limey who is finishing up an M20 triple IDF build out your way.

Yeah I know the one I think it looks good so far!

I'd have loved to have tried a few different options I was going to use an s50b32 but in honesty my main concern was having extra weight over the front of the car I'm hoping to mount everything back over and keep the weight down. As you said different purposes and they should both be really cool!

Yep, when one figures in an M10 with AC and the heavy battery up front its roughly the same weight as the M20 (sans power steering and AC). My driving experiences have backed this up.

What your seeing with the M42 is the heavier top end countered by a pretty tall overall engine height. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the engine placement, it's always great to see someones fresh take on something.

I maybe should have done more research into the m20 as all I really did was look up weights and considered the weight being forward. But in honesty with the turbo and cooler and everything else il be at the same weight I bet. But I was hoping for something different and over 300hp. Maybe if I had the opportunity beforehand to try others I might have made a different decision however it's the first boosted car I've done so I think it's time to give it a go!
I don't need to worry about A/C in the UK my car never had it haha

No, with your 300hp goal it sounds like you've made the most logical decision.

Starting to get a plan on the interior!
