So today, strarted by pressure washing/degreasing the whiteblock, gearbox and the engine bay.
Determined the almost certain position of the motor.
Removed a shit ton of aluminum from the bellhousing so the flywheel ring gear will fit.
Cut the water pipe so i can shorten it.
Decided that i need to come up with 450 bucks to order the adapter plate and hardware, but i dont have 450 bucks
Decided i will be ditching the oilcooler on the pan in favor for some -AN fittings for fittings to an external oil cooler, the factory cooler would hit the subframe, unfortunatly.
Oil pan modifications is gonna be a real pain in the butt, i snapped some pics of clearance but they are on my buddies phone so i will post them when he sends me them.

    determined position

yes it clears, will still be raising up the res for a bit more clearance, just stoked to not have to deal with any shit on that side

    Thats all for now.

Looks like you got plenty of room for a turbo. :)

      Or two.

one, hahn racecraft 20g, 10cm2 exhaust side which is about a .73 a/r, garret 60-1 compressor, this motor will make 300whp at about 15psi and boost will be all in by about 3.5k rpm.

        So a little update
Payed for the 20g, should see that some time in the next 7 days, once that is bolted on i can finish the water pipe, just dont want to weld it all up and find that the turbo hits it.

Waiting from a reply from the god damn swedes so i can pay them for the adapter plate, cant do a whole lot without bolting up the trans and hanging it all in the bay to figure out the proper position

I made a decision on how i will deal with the oil pan, i will use just the top flange and weld my own custom bottom half and run oil lines off the front of the pan that will run to a remote oil filter housing and then to an external cooler.

my weapon of choice, this thing is freakign amazing, battery charges in like 10minutes and it weighs nothing, i highly recomend

finished cutting out the filter housing and cleaned up around the edges

just an idea of what how it will go together, planning to weld either bar stock or angle to create a frame around it to build off, mill on the inside to folllow the pan contours.

        on the motor

        cut pick up tube

cut accessory bracket, dont need the bottom, no ac compressor

now i can use those four bolt holes for my motor mount, might drill them out a bit and retap for one size bigger.

Speaking of motor mounts, i have planned to plate the frame rail and build mount hangers off the frame, the subframe is too far back for mounts and it is rigid mounted to the frame rail anyways and the frame is plenty strong. ive got it planned out, once the adapter plate arrives ill figure out the position of the motor then go to town on the mounts, should be able to get it all done in a weekend.

BTW is there anyway to change the thread title?

i can feel the love here on this forum >.> lol

            3-2-12
very little progress lately, turbo arrives on monday so i can then finish the water pipe. Adapter plate is on its way, probally at the earliest i might see it next week, doubtfull tho, most of the work is at a hault till that arrives.

Although i made up one motor mount plate, will get the rest of the metal to do the other side and plate the frame this weekend.

(just some 3/16 red scrap i found)
will radius all the corners when the mount arms are completly done

            3-4-12
went to the junkyard today and grabbed an oil cooler off a 740 turbo, nice little unit

mounted the intercooler and oil cooler

            3-5-12
            turbo showed up today

and the compressor doesnt clear the manifold...few options here.
            a) it might clear an s60r manifold, 200 bucks
            B) make a tubular manifold, probally about 300 bucks in material by the time im all said and done...plus the gobs of time it will take me
            c) obx t3 adapter flange + another t3 flange to get the correct spacing, and longer studs.
Think i will go with option "c" since its the cheapest and easiest and my goal right now is to get the car running and driving, so i am not worried about the shittyness of the stock manifold.

On a good note....lots of room for downpipe =]

decided im gonna have the flywheel redrilled to use the bmw pressure plate, its larger than the volvo one, its meant for the bmw disc i have to use and its meant for the throwout bearing i have to use, and theres plenty of options for stronger clutches. But damn, it just barely fits =]

thanks guys, really pissed this adapter plate is going to take for ever to get here, i cant really do any more without bolting up the trans.
Dropping the flywheel off this weekend to have it redrilled and repinned to use the e34 535i pressure plate.

cut the flange off a spare 3" throttle body, had a buddy weld it on the manifold for me, then i tapped the holes and bingo, no more lame drive by wire throttle body.

Ordering intercooler and exhaust parts right now, ordered oil filter relocation stuff and a bunch of vdo gauges. Flywheel is at the machine shop right now getting redrilled.

So today, i got a suprise at work, couldnt believe it but sure enough...my adapter plate! from sweden in 7 days, not bad!

Quality looked great and tolerences were also quite nice i found after installing it.

need to get some more bolts at lunch tommorow for the adapter plate but for now it is bolted on sturdy enough for mock up.

                          yeaaaaaa

We heard you liked vert mounted whiteblocks so we put one in your e30

                          it closes...thats good.

So that is the final position of the motor, exactly, the height is perfect, the hood closes, its perfectly centered, the rear transmission crossmember is bolted up.
I need to extend the driveshaft and shift linkages about 6 inches, the driveshaft angle will be less harsh than stock, so im happy.

The intake manifold does not fit unfortantly, when i mocked up the motor originally it was not centered so i thought it would fit but....nope. The master cylinder and booster are in the way, so i will be installing an e21 booster and moving the booster over a couple inches to give me some more clearance but i still dont think that will be enough room for the stock manifold so i will most likely be building a manifold, but even then, space is very tight, we'll see.
ut even then, space is very tight, we'll see.

Haha, I could understand that; tb guys don't have a good rep on treatin the vs guys well
But srsly, this is fucking awesome. I've always had dreams of whiteblock-swappin my 245, but I think I'm just gonna complete the +T to the b230 this summer when I go back to norcal...and focus on getting my old Peugeot really pretty.

Have you followed any of the buchka projects on tb? They've whiteblock swapped a few 240s, and a few vw's
