I had some free time yesterday and decided I would make a new dash insert from carbon fiber.

Here are a few of the build pictures. I have decided to make a bunch on these and they are for sale.

    Time for an update!

In the last for weeks my main goal for the car is to have it registed so I can learn to drive it and hence make my racing better.

For people who don't know, in Queensland it is quite hard to get a modified car registed. To start with I drove over to a local mechanic to get a roadworthy. This is when problems started.

Problem number 1 – Brakes felt quite spongy so I figured I would bleed the brakes and flush the brake fluid. Easy right? No! Being a BMW both front brake bleed nipples decided to round off. So I left the brakes until new brake nipples arrived from Turner Motorsport, along with new ATE Super clue brake fluid. Once they arrived it was a straight forward process and all went to plan. Now the brakes fell quite hard :)

Problem number 2 – Water temperature was running a bit high when I was in traffic. When I got to the workshop I realised that coolant was pissing out of the radiator cap and out from the overflow. I thought it was getting hot because there was no airflow through the radiator at traffic lights etc. and when it got to hot it popped the cap.

I was trying to avoid putting a thermo fan in because I had never installed one before, was a bit concerned about punching a hole in my $800 PWR radiator and also the gap between the water pump pulley and radiator is about 50mm. After asking around I made the decision the install a smaller fan off to the right hand side. I did this because before the top and bottom radiator hose are on the right side of the radiator so I figured that's where most of the water flow would be. I carried out the install and it was VERY easy. I really don't know what I was worried about.

With these issues sorted the next stop was the transport department to have the vehicle inspected and get my registration. Water temperature seemed to be alright although a little higher than I would like (just above half way). On the way home the temperature got even higher and again the radiator cap pissed out coolant. At this point I had a good look at the radiator cap and realised that it wasn't on all the way as it has a two stage lock. FACE PALM!!!!

With the radiator cap on properly I hit the road again in my newly registed car to visit my girlfriend (about 25 minute drive). Water temperature stay below half the whole way even without the thermo fan! Super happy about that. Then something bad happened....

Problem number 3 – Belt squeal! On the way home after a 'spirited' drive I notice I had quite a bit of belt squeal at idle. Surely just a belt adjustment right? Incorrect! The toothed bracket that the adjuster sits in had destroyed the teeth so the alternator was moving around! So now I can't tighten the belt at all. What a disaster.

    This brings me up-to-date.

I will source a new alternator bracket this afternoon and keep driving to sort more little issues.

I also order VAC floor mounts for my seat so I can sit lower in the car. Once that is sorted I want to make a carbon switch panel in the dash. Then get a roll cage.

    On with the pics!

I've got 7 cars, so I can't go spending all the money on one of them!

This arrived from Turner motorsport. New ATE super blue fluid, brass caliper bushes and some assorted wheel spacers (5mm and 15mm). I istalled the caliper bushes this arvo and will do the brake fluid tomorrow and change a few things.

I may be running the clutch line from the brake reservoir. This would get rid of the clutch reservoir and tidy up the engine bay which we all love :) Progess with the car has been a little slow as I am in the middle of starting up my own business so that is consuming all of my time and most of my money :(

I have a few more things I will purchase before I get the roll cage installed. Next up is a VAC S14 fuel rail, solid seat mounts and a set of new 90mm studs. I am also getting the car mod plated on tuesday so hopefully road registration shouldn't be to far away!

I love it when new parts arrive :)

    New vs old

That is an awesome build! I'm surprised they let you race without a cage though; they don't let you do hillclimbs without one in Americaland.
Yer kinda scary like that in Aus. Dont need a cage unless you are racing someone else lol it is next on the list though!
