    Let phase 2 begin!

Well after some time off I have decided to get back into it! I have made quite an extensive to-do list that is almost as long as it was before! I started the 'phase 2' with some pretty little bits.

When the car gets re-sprayed I want to have yellow covered headlights. I wasn't keen on doing it just yet though, so I got a hold of some yellow headlight and parklight bulbs. I think the headlights are about 3400k.

This is my to-do before I head to the track again.
    Roll cage
    VAC fuel rail
    Seat mount
    Badges
    Catch can
    Coolant overflow and thermo fan
    New brake fluid
    Speedo and Tacho
    Switches
    Oil pressure gauge
    Mod plate & registration
    Stickers
    Brakes Lights

Roll cage – Pretty self explanatory. Will be a 6 point roll-cage with side intrusion bars. I am booked in around mid September.

VAC fuel rail – My standard rail is still weeping a tiny bit of fuel from the -6 fittings. I think the current rail is just to fragile so I will get a hold of a new rail just to be on the safe side. Also looking at what color it should be. Maybe matte black to match my catch can?

Seat mount – At the moment my OMP seat is on a modified standard seat rail. It isn't bad but I want to seat lower in the car. I already have side seat mount brackets, I just have to install them.

Badges - I grabbed some carbon black BMW badges. In the final stages of preparation for Fraser Coast Sprints I could only find one old ratty BMW badge! So I had to go to FCS with one badge on the the front, what a disaster! So new badges should make it look quite pretty :)

Catch can – On another note from FCS there was a small gearbox leak coming from the breather. I think I will combine the engine catch can with the gearbox overflow to make one neat bottle. This will get rid of the ugly E-bay catch can I have at the moment. I am thinking about a nice custom can catch painted matte black.

Coolant overflow and thermo fan – Another problem from FCS was the car didn't like sitting in line in the hot weather. The temp gauge would easily go into the red if I wasn't careful. Once out on the track, temperature went down so it was only an airflow problem. When it did get hot, coolant came out of the overflow and straight down onto the exhaust which isn't quite ideal. This could have also been from overfilling the coolant as well. I want to install a thermo fan as well as redirect the over straight down onto the ground. This should solve both problems.

New brake fluid – Again in the rush before FCS, I didn't get time to but decent brake fluid. It wasn't a problem at FCS as it was only a short track. I am currently running AC Delco DOT 4 brake fluid as it was readily available. I want to upgrade to a DOT 5.1. Maybe something like ATE super blue or something similar.

Speedo and Tacho – Basically get both these items working on the M3 instrument cluster.

Switches – I want to install some switches in the center dash panel. I want fuel pump, ignition and ECU power switches. Mainly for safety and security.

Oil pressure gauge – I also want a oil pressure gauge and warning light in the center dash panel.

Mod plate & registration – Pretty self explanatory

Stickers – Again pretty self explanatory

Brakes Lights – I need to re-install the brake light switch and adjust it.

All in all quite a lot of work to keep me busy. I swear this project will need end. I also want to get new wheels with wider tires and new coilovers which I already have ideas for. I will be doing a separate thread on my wheel swap as it won't be your average swap ;) (of course I will copy and paste here).

Here are a few random pics

    New headlights

    Ugly catch can

    Random engine shot

More shots from FCS, yes that is a turbo M3 ;)

    Well well well.
The car has been run at Fraser coast sprints and returned home safely! I ended up coming 1st in class and 9th outwrite! So pumped about the result and the car was fault-less all weekend.

Rewind back to thursday before. Car made just over 210rwhp which I was really happy with. Brought it home Thursday afternoon to find the tacho and speedo not working! After a few hours we still could not get them to work so we called Ian at Motec who came round. In the end we ended up installing a shift light at 7500rpm and the rev-limit at 7800rpm. Friday morning we changed the oil and filter, loaded it on the trailer and went racing!

First run on Saturday was my first ever real drive of the car. Wow! What a rocket! I am so happy with the performace of the motor. The only downside to the car at the moment is the tyres. I am running Kumho KU36s which arn't the best (nor the worst) semi slicks. I didn't have full confidence in the brakes as the wheels kept locking. Oh well! Nobody to blame but myself.

Now we are back home I have decided to take a break from doing any major work on the car. I have booked it in to get a roll cage in mid September, so longing to do some events after that. I have heaps of things that I want to do to the car so by no means is this car finished!

    Future plans are as follows:
    - Roll cage (mid September)
    - New wheels/tyres (before end of year)
    - Full respray in blue (before end of year)
    - GC coilovers (early next year)

Here are some pics and videos

    Camp BMW!

I will try and update this thread as much as possible in the next few days... lets see how frantic it gets! ;)

Wed - Got my guards rolled front and rear. They did a great job with them and I can actually fit my finger between the rear guard and tyre. Also a bit of bad news as I found a dirty bitch of a screw in my BRAND NEW tyre! Shit!

Got a front and rear wheel alignment at Taylor St mechanical. It sounds like a backyard workshop, and it pretty much is, but wow he does a great wheel alignment.

I painted my IS rear spoiler satin black. Pretty happy with the outcome considering I was using a spray can. I will re-paint matte black this weekend as I turned it over on the cardboard when the paint was still wet and it fucked up the corner a little. I will also be painting the bonnet matte black as well so at least they will look the same.

Thur- Dad went to the wreckers today and picked up a bonnet release cable and some front indicators. So now I have a closing bonnet! He also tackled the speedo wiring, so now I can see the incredable speed I will be reaching! ;)

If all goes well, when I paint the bonnet. I will take her out this weekend and get some proper photos. :D

    IS spoiler painting - start

    First coat

    Finish

    On the car

    Inperfection!!!

    F%@#$#@K!!!!!!

Hasn't been tuned yet because it got hot sitting at 2500rpm at 50% load.

I will be running in 2000-3000cc unreg at Fraser coast sprints.
