Progress will begin soon shEck3lls0 and I are gonna pull the head and take it to machine shop to get checked out. Then do all new seals and head gasket. I am making a list of parts that I'm gonna need. Any advice? I know I'm not getting a vr headgasket thats for sure... I wanna keep it relatively stock just maybe beef up the head gasket with a Cometic multi layer one and longer head bolts. Next update will have major progress.

I only wanted to make 200whp on stock setup. When I build the motor completely I am expecting at least 300. From what I have read so far it is definitely possible if you tear it down and build the motor up .The previous owner of the turbo kit said he made 246whp at 12psi on a stock m42. That seems high to me but who knows. Also certain dyno's read higher. I wonder If I call DTM if they would remember his car?? I need to figure the megasquirt shit out. The rest of the stuff I can have bolted up in a day. I just dont see the point until I have everything else hooked up.

If anyone knows about megasquirt fill me in with what I'm missing.
      Thanks
to make it work your need wideband and IAT sensor. Todd at DTM made that MS. he only made a few. hes a legit dude. Not sure about the 246 hp... 12 psi is about all you can throw at it before the hg pops. itll pop between 3 and 4. too much heat back there.

Your also going to need a base tune. I can send you one once i reformat my laptop. does it come with injectors?

bout 18- 20 psi gets you there no problem

I bought 42lb injectors from VAC. The previous owner told me the tune was set up for 42lb injectors and 12psi. I really only wanna run 7-10psi so it will last longer. With the multi layer head gasket and bolts I hope it will handle that fine for at least a year. Either way I'm gonna pay to get it re-tuned so I'll just get it tuned to run around 10psi I think. How much should I spend on wideband and Iat sensor? Any particular brand? I will definitely have to grab that base tune from you. Thanks.

I definitely recommend AEM's UEGO wideband. I've had mine going on 2 years... no problems at all since installation. I get a bit of stereo whine but I am sure that's my fault with shielding or something.

My setup sees 8-12psi (stupid internal wastegate and actuator) and has held up for the same amount of time as the UEGO. The headgasket had about 20,000 miles on it before boost and using the stock bolts. If you are doing studs and multi layer gasket you will have no problem for a long time.

My tune is setup for 46lb injectors (low impedance) but may help you? The only other one I have is for 32lb injectors... but was running out of fuel by 4600rpm @ 10psi. I have it it in my build thread.

I really hope those injectors are high imp. makes tuning with ms a hell of alot easier.

i dont think my tune will help you. im running 1000cc injectors. lol itll throw everything off. duty cycle blah blah blah. unless you want to change all that when it comes time to tune.

Me too i just wish I had more time to research more. My knowledge of Engine Internals and forced induction is limited. I'm hoping by doing this project I will learn a good amount and have a better understanding. I have been reading a lot on my time off work. A local guy just rebuilt his m42 and he is gonna help so that should be a big help.

I second all of the above. I am looking to buy some 46lb high imp injectors now because of the difficulty I've had tuning the low.

Good luck, I'm sure between your local guy and the board you will be able to get it done relatively quickly and reliably.

                      YAY! M42 POWAH!
For longevity, I would recommend lowering the compression a bunch. as for all the seals, it would be best to take the entire engine out.

I am pulling the entire engine out. I bought an engine stand a while back and now I can finally use it. Plus I realize I want it to look good after going through all trouble why not clean all the parts and engine bay and do a nice neat job. I just bought a 91 4dr 318i for a daily and have been dumping money into it I gotta stop so I can get this project done.

Goodntight is a member who builds turbo maniflod that is good quality. Not like ebay junk. Lot's of 24v swap go with with his adapter. Just search you will find some badass cars using it.

Well priorities have changed since I lost my job. As of right now the turbo build is on hold. Hopefully I can get another contract and resume work soon enough. But when your entire income is e30 parts it makes you a poor bastard lol. This is the project I started this week.
