Thanks guys.
Long story for the reason theres no body shots: Engine bay and door jams are currently the only things in paint, I'm going to paint the bottoms/insides of the doors, hood, trunk, core support, etc and basically reassemble it all, put foam tape in the jams, then spray it at all once. Need to do it this way due to the fact that I can't hang the seperate pieces that require paint on both sides. I only have stands to use, which would require flipping the door while spraying base and clear, and ruining it. Or having overspray on the finished side, if I don't flip it.

Great color choice Justin! Nice job on keeping it under wraps until now. I can't wait to see it in the sunlight, sitting next to mine, Frank's, Ryan's and whoever else gets theirs done, at Bimmerfest. Should be a nice photo-op for Performance BMW or Eurotuner or even Roundel. It will be the largest grouping of V8 powered E30's in history... and we own them! Pretty F-in' cool...

The gun is dialed in great, my buddy who's spraying it is doing an awesome job. Very little orange peel, no tiger striping, no runs or thin areas.
The engine bay looks like shit because of my sloppy seam sealing job and shoddy metal work (aka, hit stuff with a hammer until the V8 fits). Luckily the engine and accessories are so damn big, you won't see any of it!

Ooo, I'm about to paint my car too. How did you tape off the window holes? Mine are removed too so I'm curious.
BTW, how do you feel about the whole idea of how painting with panels removed (doors, fenders) can lead to inconsistency with the final coats? I'm sanding the car down right now and I can feel your pain about sanding the jambs.
edit: just read that post above concerning separate panelsLast edited by drumad; 06-01-2012, 09:45 AM.2008 335i - n54b30

BMW chassis, BMW engine, BMW paint, but none of them used together before :)

I can't get a break.
Yesterday we spent all morning prepping the car for paint. At around lunch time, with the sun shining, a cloud formed directly over us and dumped rain on everything. We scrambled to get everything back inside the garage. It stopped raining a few minutes later, but the damage was done. The tape and paper were ruined. That set us back a few hours.
Then around 6pm, after the car was re-taped and almost ready to paint, I left to go get some pizza, and my buddy hung out finishing some stuff up. Within 5 minutes of me leaving, it went from nice, sunny, no wind, to hurricane conditions. I've never seen that sudden and extreme of a weather change in PA in my life. So my friend is at the garage, by himself, and shit hits the fan. The car, all covered in paper, got soaked instantly. Then the wind came a few seconds later, and launched the fenders, that were sitting on stands, across the road. The hood actually lifted up off of the stands, right as he went to grab it. All kinds of tools, paint supplies, etc... were outside. The booth got damaged as he scrambled to get the car inside. One of the sheets got stuck under the tire somehow and pulled a section apart.
Mind you, it's been sunny and mostly rain-free for WEEKS now, right up until we started the painting process. We get to the garage at about 5:30pm every night, and EVERY night since we bought the paint supplies, it's rained from about 5pm until about 10pm. It's getting ridiculous. It was funny the first few days, but it's starting to piss us off now.
Anyway, the car is in the garage now, ready to be wiped down and sprayed. That's the goal for tonight. We aren't taking it back outside until it's painted.
