Ever seen a turbo car with ultra short gearing? No. There's a reason.
If you choose not to accept that, that's fine. But gearing follows the laws of physics; your e30 is no different from any other car in the world.
The auto trans is irrelevant. He'll barely get to the end of his block before it grenades.
I agree with the fact that short gearing on a turbo wouldnt work well.... I dont have short gears...
I said it earlier its no loss if the transmission goes out, I wouldn't even care if the M20 went out. This car is not my daily driver the only time I drive it is to car shows/meets or to do donuts. I put maybe 3k on the e30 last year.

there are alot of people that would actually argue that an automatic is better for boosted applications, the only downside would be strength( and bordom) but i have heard a couple people running 4hp22s with boosted m20s and say they hold up pretty well...
I think its cool that the op is leaving it automatic till it blows up, yea its a bit more work but hes doing something that very very very few people do and we get to be here to see how it goes along, im excited to see what that trans can take.
and If it does "grenade" I would love to catch it on video to show all of you. I guess you can take this as a test of what the transmission can do. I hear stories all the time of how this transmission cant handle abuse or how it has sluggish shifts, but mine has taken tons of abuse and shifts fast/hard enough to break traction between 90% of the first to second gear shifts.

Just an FYI... 4.27 is EXTREMELY FUCKING SHORT
Anyway, good luck. At least you're better than Japandrew.
may I ask how fast does your car hits in 1st and second gear and what diff. ratio are you using?
I'm comparing apples and oranges now but you would hate my wrx (which is also turbocharged) then because it also only hits 40mph in first and 60 second and 90mph in 3rd just like my E30. I don't care about how fast the top speed is.

your just making your self look stupid man, you are completly disregarding the transmission gearing. the 4hp22 auto trans he is using is a much much longer/taller geared transmission than the manual gearbox that everyone uses which is why it came with a higher geared rear end from the factory. The lower geared rear end makes up for the taller gearing in the auto trans, just because a 4.27 differential is short in one car doesnt mean it will be short in another car with a completly different transmission.
