I'm not an expert by any means but I'd definitely drain the gasoline that's been sitting in the gas tank for months and fill it up with fresh stuff before firing it up. Once again this is a shot in the dark but stale gas can form sediments and hypothetically clog up the fuel system. Personally I'd refresh the gas and the fuel filter before starting it up. But don't quote me on that.

So I've got it running again, but its been tough to start.
then it sounds like its only firing on some cylinders. Occasionally it will go crazy on start up and want to go all the way to redline.
Much worse then when it first started

You are certain the fuel lines are running the right way? They could be backwards, and the FPR could be bad, but that is an unlikely coincidence.
I would personally start tackling things one at a time. Check for major intake leaks, then for spark really quickly, then check fuel.
You give us a better idea of what happens when you try to start it? Does it simply crank and crank? Does it catch occassionally like it might start but then doesnt? Nothing at all?
Return should be on the FPR side right? Feed on the front of the rail.
Top line on e30 frame rail return and 2nd line feed. Pretty sure its right since it ran last night.
Did you see the video?
sometimes it will crackle and pop like it might fire, but then dies
I tested spark, only on the first plug though and it was there.
I've looked around for intake leaks and it looks good ill double check

Is there a chance the FPR is bad? When I undid the fuel rail there was lots of fuel backed up in there and it leaked everywhere.
Is it a problem with me running the M50 fuel rail?

(I'm the one starting it in the yellow shirt, which says hot and juicy)

So SHE FIRED UP TODAY! (video coming soon)
A couple of issues though:
1. My s52 MAF that I had extra from my old m3 doesn't work on my s52 plug, yet my friends s50 OBD1 MAF's plug matches? Any reason this might be?
Maybe the PO converted the plug for a euro 3.5 MAF?
