Bravo! This build is full of win...except for the speedo cluster. Although my avatar reads different, I see nothing wrong with this swap.

No A/C so a little bit of tint helps and looks way better. It's not dark at all. It also helps with uv rays

And to all the trollers/haters, a turbo M10 has been done many times before, it takes a lot more craftsmanship and skill to swap a motor designed by engineers that are paid hundreds of thousands if not millions to develop a drivetrain that will be the best in the class for a specific car. Then you throw that out the window and drop it in a car that was developed almost 40 years ago.

As for smog restrictions, these counties require smog:
Alameda, Butte, Colusa, Contra Costa, Fresno, Glenn, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Luis, Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Ventura, Yolo, Yuba

And certain zip codes in these counties: El Dorado, Placer, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Sonoma.

If you smogged it when you got it, you could use the car in another county and register it there and not require smog.

Although I imagine you wouldn't have an issue getting it BAR'd. It's a US spec motor and I imagine you already have all the smog equipment to hook it all up, the only thing you might run into is not having a factory ECU?

I'm pretty sure that's wrong, there is not a county in the State of California that you don't have to smog your car. Also, you can't BAR an engine from a different manufacturer.

very nice 02! I cant believe i hadn't looked at this thread. Lets get it on the street and please keep it the same color!

Interior is different but that not a bad thing. I agree the tach looks a bit too modern but thats my only problem with it! oh and the valve cover! haha

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

The counties listed are ripped straight from the DMV website. I have experience in this area, I had a vehicle stored in Lake County that I didn't need to smog, paid the reg and got my stickers.

The counties are not completely exempt, only exempt from the yearly or bi yearly renewal. Whenever you transfer a car in the State of California it must be smogged, after you register it in an exempt county it won't require a smog.

Dispite what you've heard, an engine from a different mfg can be bar'd http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...mog-legal.html

There are a few bits and pieces that are required of any engine swap to be bar'd (all emissions equip from new engine still need to be there, engine must be newer than chassis, HD truck motors cannot be swapped down. and some other bits)

In any case I hope I'm up in Sac soon, I gotta see this thing in person one day. Sweet sweet swap

Thank you for doing this swap. I've been dreaming about it for a while, so glad to see that someone with the means made it a reality. I came from Honda's, it's funny to see how many people here are blindly prejudice. No one knows how to be a car enthusiast anymore, everyone is a brand whoring fanboy. It really makes it hard to want to be involved with the car scene, when there's so many close minded idiots you have to deal with.
Gloff, if they don't want to listen to you then don't spread that information, let's just keep it between those of us, "in the know." =)
