Fuel filter replaced!
Tools used:
- 8mm socket & wrench
- Flat head screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- 2x vice grip clamp things
- Oil drain pan
- Fresh paper towels
Parts used:
- New OEM fuel filter (Blunt Tech)
- Replaced janky old fuel filter clamps x2. These are basically just 2 medium hose clamps that hold the fuel filter in place under the fuel pump.
Time spent:
- ~30min
Note 1: Make SURE that when you reclamp the hoses that you get it on tight or else fuel fill leak out.
Note 2: Disconnect the negative and also remove the gas cap to relive any pressure in the gas tank.
Note 3: The oil drain pan is a huge help. Get the 2 hoses clamped down and go easy on removing the hoses from the old fuel filter. Undo one hose at a time and let the fuel drain out into the oil drain pan. The old fuel filter will still have some left over fuel that will drip which is fine, let it keep dripping and go and undo the rear hose. Once this is removed leave the old fuel filter drain out.
If you clamped the rear hose just right no excess fuel should leak out, at this time take the new fuel filter and fit it into the hose. Make sure that the arrow on the new fuel filter is pointing towards the engine. Next fit the front of the new fuel filter in with the front hose and clamp everything down.
I noticed that the old clamps used to hold the fuel filter was a bit rusted and weak looking so I replaced them with newer and beefier clamps. Double check everything and re-install the bottom cover piece. Re-connect the battery and put back on the gas cap. Start the car, this may take a few tries due to the fact that when you replaced the fuel filter air got into the hoses so just let that flush out and keep starting the engine. Mine started on the 3rd try and then I took her for a quick spin around the block. Perfect.
