    Thanks guys.
I do want to say that I'm not hating on stance, it has it's place when done right. It's just not what Fiona is being built for. She's gonna need some grip in the rear to say the least lol.

With your fab skills, you could easily cut the factory fender-wells out and fab your own and run wide wheels without the wide body. Wider stance is obviously better for handling and what not but since your going for a different look and using the fender flares, thought I would throw Ideas out there that I'm sure you've already contemplated. Lots of respect for you and your build here, it is inspiring and I can't wait to see what you do on the interior of this thing.

Wouldn't the rear control arms get in the way of moving the wheels inboard more? You can notch them out a bit but not much. It's not like a double A arms rear suspension where the wheels just fit around the whole assemble. Could be wrong though.

the shocks are more limiting in the rear than the trailing arms:

          however, that's easier to fix.

yeah, moving those around would be hard to do without the proper alignment equipment. youve gone this far, why not just fab up an IRS conversion? :) would be a solution to your grip issue! at least in the twisties..

Maybe something along the lines of this:

If you bought all the linkages and hub/brake stuff, you could fab the rest yourself using a jig of some sort to keep everything in alignment. maybe im just dreaming to witness something like this in a 2002!

indeed. I guess it depends on the tq numbers of this monster m20 and how light the setup is. would be solid gold on a track though. only downside I can think of is limitations up front. The limitations of the front might be the bigger drawback than the trailing arm rear suspension. any thoughts?

Haha, I think you guys are putting more planning into this than I am.

First off Deutschman is correct, while I could easily tub the inner fender well the trailing arms get in the way shortly after, so there isn't much room to be gained there. The trailing arms would need to be notched, or fab up some tubular versions that have more clearance. At that point it would just make more sense to do a completely custom rear end.

That being said I do actually want to be done with the fab work at some point lol. There are limitations no matter what design is used, that's why there are so many different options out there. If I really wanted to go all out you would be seeing inboard brakes, single lug hubs, tubular pushrod suspension etc. But I have to draw the line somewhere.

haha ah come on now, we all know deep down half the fun is building it..

that being said, I will agree that inboard brakes, pushrod suspension and center lock hubs is excessive. do the e30 trailing arms offer much more clearance? the shape appears to give you more clearance on the e30 but I dont know any exact measurements.

Heist had to notched the trailing arms on his 02... Id post a picture but Photobucket wont load right now for some resin.

The e30 arms offer a little more clearance compared to the '02 ones, plus the shock mounting ear is further inboard. So that definitely helps. I'd say the next step will be to get my wheels built to the right offsets and see where I have clearance issues.

Haha, it is motivational. Though I like to think I'll be the most excited out of anyone when it's all done.

I did see that in his thread a while ago. Hopefully I can avoid it, time will tell.

I have the e30 subframe with arms in my 2002. The rear fits nicely but come out about two inches if you want pics of the poke I can post one up for reference. The wheels for the rear is 17x8.5 et13 with 255 tire with a 18 mm spacer so for e front you want a low offset to avoid to hit the strut like a 13 offset with a 8.5 wide rim
