I'm not too familiar with the swap but can't you just swap the coding plug in the tach out for a 6 cyl one so it reads correctly?

I'm not sure on the coding plug between 4cylinder tach and 6 cylinder. Everything in my guage cluster seemed to only work intermittently. I'm guessing it needed batteries/si board? so I am getting a rebuilt one from r3v member gregm. That way everything should work properly. I hate working with electrical stuff.

Are you really running 5w30 oil?

Ok forgive my ignorance. What weight oil should I run? I have not done the oil change yet so I could exchange it at the store.

OK I checked with Turner Motorsports and they reccomend 5w30 for the 635csi M30 engine. That is also what the 635csi service manual calls for and that is my engine. The dealer also reccomends that weight with my engine.

apparently there are a lot of variations of the 3.5 m30. They recommend a different weight oil for the 5 series, the 7 series and the m6

                      Seriously?

                      Seriously?

Synthetic is a waste of money on any BMW from 1997 back.

Nope. They're all the same inside. B28 all the way to B35. They just got a little more room inside, and a little more power.

All will take the same oil.

                        M6 is not an M30. It's an S38.

Thanks for the heads up on the oil! I will be exchanging it for a heavier weight. It went off to the painter today. Hopefully it will be painted by the end of the week. I ordered a new is spoiler from bavauto, as mine was spliting, and a bunch of assorted clips to reassemble it when I get it back. I removed all of the trim, mirrors, door handles, locks etc.

Oh and I ordered Apex ARC-8 wheels. I have to decide if I should keep the tires I have currently - 215/45/17 or spend more money and go with APEX recommendation of 215/40/17

I also need to find a complete lock set from a part out as the keys I have don't work with all of the doors/ignition/trunk.

I saw it at the paint shop today. They are doing a great job of prepping it. Almost ready for paint. Attached are some more pics as I started taking off the trim.

here's some updated pictures. I've been working hard on this thing. This last weekend I got a ton done on it. Paint turned out great. I put the new springs and Billstein sports on up front, new tires and had it aligned. It is running and driving great. Got the new ZHP knob and leather shift boot and leather e-brake handle and boot. I also put in a new stereo. I found a wrecked newer 7 series and used it's front speakers. They fit perfect and they were much newer and nicer than my old speakers. I'm going with the hidden antenna and a plug for the antenna hole. I really like the m30 compared to my old 325is. It just seems much more powerful and much better torq. I just need to get my new door locks so I can put on the door panels.
